A horrific screech unleashed into the still air, the sound of claws and wood slapping onto stone filling the quiet halls of a dilapidated shrine. A repetitive thump started quickening, moving closer and closer until...
GRAAAH!!!
Another ear-piercing screech filled the air as a figure tripped and stumbled in an awkward sprint down the corridor. Ragged breathing now filled the air the figure clawing at the floor and walls to try and give themselves a boost against the hunting creature. The figure's eyes were widened, nearly bloodshot with the flow of adrenaline as he sprinted past a window in the hopes of finding an exit. They needed to find an exit, it was the only way to get out of this hellhole.
Rain softly pelted the top of the shrine. The drops of rain thumping against the hole-filled roof as the sliding door of the building were cast aside, ripping it asunder as a figure tumbled down the steps. The figure's body managed to slam onto his shoulder rolling forward as the figure clawed at the wet dirt. The air was thick with fog, the cold rain hitting the formerly sun-warmed earth to cast a fog upon the forgotten shrine. The figure revealed to be a male, the grey light pouring through the clouds onto his black outfit as it stained in the mud. His breath panted against the ground, the male crawling through a puddle toward a dead tree. In the puddle, he could see the poor state he was in. His soft (E/c) eye behind a pair of dirt and water-covered glasses. His face was covered in blood from an open gash above his left eyebrow, forcing his left eyelid to force shut. His (H/c) hair flopped forward in a mess of sweat and rain. In general... he looked terrible, but as a crash sounded from behind him, he quickly slapped a hand into the puddle, pulling himself forward once more. The creature that had been chasing its prey revealed itself, a managed mess of flesh with arms sticking out of various mounds of congealed orange flesh. In its chest was a bright red eye and just below it was a large open mouth. The demonic spirit let out a howl of anger as its muscles legs carried it forward toward the boy that now placed himself against the bark of the decayed tree.
???: Is that all you... have?
The male spoke to the creature in a cruel tease, his lips pressed into a line as he took a moment to gather himself. The boy lifted his leg to rest a hand on his knee before lifting his other hand in a fist. The bit of movement he managed was the last of his energy, this creature proving much tougher to handle than had been anticipated. Why it was here was also a mystery, but as the injured male blinked his un-hindered eye, he took a calculating gaze.
GRAAAH!!!
The spawn let out another vicious howl, charging through the fog and rain toward the male with the intent to claim another victim for its gullet. As the creature's foot crashed down into the same puddle the male had been in, its foot cracking a brittle piece of wood, the male coughed once. He took a moment to lift his hand toward the creature and opened his palm quickly.
Lighting stuck an area nearby, flashing the shrine in an almost blinding light as the creature stopped in its tracks. It took a moment to glance around frantically before a large spillage of purple blood flowed from its mouth. Not a moment later the creature let out a bloodcurdling howl as various needle-like points tore through its flesh, ripping it apart from the inside, the creature dark against the background of the lightning.
???: You need to be more careful, alright? You shouldn't have done that job alone.
The older male spoke to the figure. The male simply nodded before leaving the infirmary. The (H/c) haired male lifted his fingers and brushed them over the bandage covering his gashed eyebrow, carefully avoiding smudging his now semi-cleaned glasses.
