"Hey, wake up! We're here!" I nudged Maribel gently, her green eyes opened, adjusting to the light. "We're home!" I said, smiling and unbuckling her seatbelt, taking her backpack out of the car.
She smiled sleepily and sat up, getting out of the car and taking the bag from me. "Wow! This place is even better in person!" She skipped towards the front door, with me following behind her, I had already taken our other bags out of the car and put them inside, so I locked the car and opened the house door.
"Welcome to our new home!" I brandished my arms, waving them around. Maribel giggled, then faced me curiously, "Where's my room?" I pointed up the stairs, "C'mon, I'll show you." She nodded and followed me upstairs, eyes wide with excitement and curiosity.
"This is so cool!!" She exclaimed, stopping next to me as I pointed to one of the doors, "That's yours, this one's mine, I had them pre-furnished a few days ago, so we don't have to worry about that."
Maribel nodded, putting her hand on the silver handle and pushing open her door, squealing when she saw the decoration. "Thank you!!!" I smiled, "No problem Mari, now, go to sleep, we have had a long day." She nodded, "Okay, Goodnight Lily!"
"Goodnight Maribel!" I waved and turned to my room, opening the door.
My room was pretty simple, dark blue walls, a white door that lead to my wardrobe off to the right, with a white dresser next to it. I had windows directly across from the door, facing the large forest to one side of town. I had a white framed bed with grey and white patterned covers and white pillows.
There was a bookshelf against the right wall, across from the bed, that sat in the left corner next to one of the windows. I had a black desk in the corner next to the door with a small lamp and chair. There was also a small table next to the bed with a lap on it, perfect for reading.
I sighed happily, yawning and slipping out of my clothes, rummaging in my bag and changing into some fuzzy grey pajamas.
I think we made the right choice, choosing this place, it's only been a few minutes, but I already love it. I smiled and hopped under the covers, closing my green eyes and falling into a deep sleep not long after.
Good luck, Mr. and Mrs. Tallia.
--
I yawned and stretched, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. A new day, new home, new chances! I was excited, and I pushed the covers off me and quickly pulled out some clean clothes form my suitcase.
I decided to wear jeans and a black hoodie, with high topped converse shoes. I rolled up the bottoms of my jeans so that they weren't too long, and grabbed my glasses from the smallest pocket of the backpack, putting them on, and picking up the nearly empty bag, swinging it over my shoulders. I chose to leave my brown hair down.
I didn't normally need glasses, and I usually wore contacts, but somedays I would just wear my glasses.
I walked across the hall and knocked on Maribel's door, "Wake up!" I said, opening it, and to my surprise, she was sitting on her bed, fully dressed and waiting. "Lets go!!" She said, jumping up and running past me, down the stairs to the front door. I chuckled, "Okay, we can find a café and get breakfast there." She nodded, walking next to me as we made our way down the sidewalk.
"This place is so pretty!!" She skipped, gazing around in curiosity, I had a similar expression, this place is cool, I want to go into the woods, but I'll do that when she is at school. Speaking of school...
"Maribel, I spoke to the school a few days ago, they said that you could start either tomorrow, or next week, what do you think?"
She stopped skipping, turning to face me, "Well... Can I start tomorrow?" I nodded, "Yeah! Of course!" I smiled, and she returned it, "Okay! Then I want to start tomorrow!"
"I'll drop you off tomorrow morning then!" We both smiled, then she continued skipping next to me. I pointed to a shop, "Hey, I think that's a coffee place, lets go there!"
"Okay, I want a croissant!" I laughed, opening the door and stepping into the small shop and up to the counter. "Hi, can I please have two croissants and one hot chocolate, and a coffee?" The lady nodded, "Yep, your total," I put my card in and pulled it back out, taking the two croissants from her.
"Thank you," I said, walking to a table, Maribel settling beside me, taking one of the croissants and munching on it happily.
I smiled and began eating my food, listening for my name and standing up and getting our drinks when my name was called.
I took a sip of the coffee, it was good. I watched Maribel's face as she drank the hot chocolate and smiled.
"We should come back here, its a really good place! And their hot chocolate.... Mhmhmh!!!" She giggled and I nodded, "Yeah, we really should. Lets get you ready for school!" I said, standing up and taking our trash, walking over the trashcan and throwing it out.
"Yep! Let's go!" She said, skipping after me as we walked down the side walk, farther into town as we explored.
--
I stood next to Maribel as we looked at all the kids going into school, my nerves were not helping, and I could feel my hands shaking slightly. "This place is big! And there are so many kids!!" She squealed jumping up and down.
The building was big, it was a large red-brick structure with steel beams holding up a patio type place for the students to hang out in, and at least 100 said students were hanging out outside, with more inside.
"Yeah, well, are you ready?" She nodded and I hugged her, "Good luck, remember, stand up for yourself,"
Don't make the mistake I did... I watched as she headed into school confidently, her black hair in a neat braid. Which is more then I could ever do...
I sighed, shaking my head and smiling, turning around and starting the short walk back the house.
While I was walking, I decided to get closer to the woods, they were so... mysterious and creepy. I loved it! But the woods would also be a good place to practice my skills with a bow and knife... Just in case, it was my job to protect Maribel, and I would gladly do so.
I nodded to myself, turning my path back to my house, so I could grab my stuff, just in case.
"I mean... its not like I have much to do today, right? And I really, really want to, so why not? Nothing is stopping me, its not like its against the law, plus, the woods are so interesting!!" I squealed, talking to no one in particular.
It was a habit of mine, and it got me some weird looks from people, though Maribel knew that this was normal. I just found that it was easier than trying to listen to my thoughts, when those little, tiny, annoying voices interrupted it.
I reached my house and took out the keys, unlocking the door and walking inside, closing the door behind me. "Okay, I think I put them in my room, in the big bag, along with the stuff for Maribel.... and the arrows too..."
I headed to my room, grinning triumphantly, "Yep! See!" I picked up the compound bow and arrows, along with the arrow holster and dagger and knife leg and arm holsters.
Pulling on the leg holster and arm holsters, I clipped the arrow holster to my belt, and slid the arrows and knives into the correct spots. I picked up my phone and sketchbook and pencil, putting them in a small backpack.
When I was finished, I picked up my bow and headed downstairs, locking the front door behind me as I walked towards the forest, a smile on my face, interest sparked in my eyes.
This will be fun.
