"Strike!" Luca exclaimed after all his pins went down "What it do baby!"
I leaned back in my seat and chuckled at his behaviour. That boy is a damn fool.
On the screen placed above our alley, Darian's name lit up next. The tall dark boy got up from his seat, then went to grab a bowling ball.
My friends and I were finally checking out the new bowling alley, and so far it's been pretty decent. They had comfortable bowling shoes, colourful couches to wait for your turn on, mainstream music blasting from their speakers, and cool illustrations painted on every wall. I mean, it wasn't my type of art but it was ite.
"Jaheem it's your turn." Jaxon announced, his slurpy straw up in his mouth.
I got up with a smug smile. "Watch the pro at work."
I grabbed a purple and orange marbled ball. It was a little heavier than I remembered but I work out six times a week, ain't nothing these guns can't handle. I swung my arm back as I advanced towards the edge of the alley, then rolled the ball away as hard and as straight as I could.
"It's running off already!" Luca snickered.
My ball was rolling towards the left a little too much. It only hit one pin, that knocked over another, before going out of bounds. I showed my best friend my middle finger when I noticed he was filming.
"Damn what a pro," Jaxon said "pro at failing!"
My friends all laughed, grabbing the other's shoulder or patting the other's chest.
"Oh ha ha." I replied dryly "Just wait and y'all will see. It was just a warm-up shot."
I grabbed another ball, stretched my back and neck, then advanced to the line again.
"If you loose by K.O. will your excuse be that it was "just a warm-up round"?" Darian joked as I swung my arm back, making me stop my movement.
The ball almost slipped out of my fingers but I thankfully caught it. That caused those boys to laugh even more.
"He can't even get the ball to go in the right direction!" Luca laughed, practically wheezing at this point.
I could only laugh too, but with a shake of the head.
"First of all n*gga I ain't ever loose by K.O. before, that's just how good I am."
"Humble much." Jaxon commented, earning a side eye from me.
"And second..."
I swung my arm back then brought it forwards to release the ball. It went straight this time, knocking all the pins except the far left one. The fools behind me cheered and applauded.
"Yeah bro!"
"You the man!"
I've been spending most of my time bulking up, working and working out, so it felt nice to take a break to just chill. Different groups of people were laughing left, right and centre, mixing with the sound of pins being knocked down. I was glad I was there with my bros.
It was getting late so we decided to head home. It was really fun, we were just vibing and nothing could've killed our mood. We were about to head out when I heard someone call me.
"Yo Jaheem!"
I turned around and spotted a thick yellow-bone chick strutting over in all her glory. She sported grey Nike sweatpants and a white t-shirt that were both hugging her body, accompanied with a jean jacket and blue Nike sneakers with her nails and hair done as usual. I smiled and waved at her.
"Yo Vicky! It's been a minute."
We hugged each other once she got close enough.
"Now I really do wonder why Jaheem's your favourite." Luca popped up "I mean, I'm funny and more attractive."
"Don't be so sure, the blacker and the berry the sweeter the juice." she replied and we dapped.
"I think you mispronounced black d*ck fetish." Darian joked, causing us all to laugh.
"I think you mispronounced I'm just salty this girl beats me at COD and 2K." Vick sassed, placing her hands on her wide hips as she mimicked his tone.
We laughed some more but this time without him. The half Latina turned to face me.
"Well we should hang soon, I'm free next weekend?"
"Ite, imma text you."
"Cool, see yeah." she then faced my friends behind me "Later guys, bye um... Lewis?"
"B*tch stop playing with me! You know my name and I want a hug too!" Luca whined, charging forwards with his arms out.
"Okay Luca, just stop being a big baby."
The mixed boy hugged the Hawaiian before she went back to her friends. I was about to walk out when I noticed my friends just stood there with knowing smiles and/or eyebrows raised.
"What?" I asked.
"The f*ck you mean "what"? She likes you." Jaxon answered like it was obvious.
I glanced at Darian and Luca who just nodded in agreement.
"Guys chill, it ain't like that. She a homie."
"I'm a homie but you don't hug me every time we meet." Luca pouted.
"First cut it with that gay sh*t." I warned which had him snickering "And I see you all the time, no need for an embrace."
"Bro I would so bag that. Why don't you just give her a chance?" Darian asked, checking her out from where we stood.
Because she's not Navia.
"Because she's not even into me."
Jaxon laughed and shook his head, then he pulled the door opened and stepped out. We all followed, getting hit by the cool evening air. We went through the snowy parking lot, stepping on thin layers of white to get to Darian's (brother's) car. Condensed air flew out of our mouths like smoke as we spoke and laughed. I really had fun.
