I sat on the porch in a rocker with Leslie. James was out playing Grace with the kids. It's been about three weeks since the wedding.
"So how is life?"
"Your in my life. Your my sister you basically know every little detail of it."
"Hey I'm just trying to make conversation."
I rolled my eyes laughing.
"Aunt Josephine! Come play!"
Alex shouts, I stood up and a sudden wave of dizziness hit me. I started swaying on my feet and Leslie grabbed my arm.
"What's wrong."
"My... my heads spinning."
"Josey?"
James asked, then I heard the sticks hit the ground and he rushed over.
He placed his hand on my other arm.
"It's fine. I just ugh- I just stood up too fast."
I placed a hand on my stomach feeling nauseous.
"Hurry. Take me over to the side."
Leslie and James walked me off the porch and to the side of the house.
I gaged, it was like I needed to trow up but I couldn't.
"Mama?"
Lilly asked, Leslie turned around and pushed her over to Alex.
"Aunt Josephine isn't feeling well."
James started rubbing my back, I clenched his hand and finally threw up. With his other hand he pulled my hair back.
"Damn Josey."
He muttered, I placed a hand on the wall steadying my self.
"Handkerchief."
I said, he quickly tied up my hair with a ribbon; then took a handkerchief out of his pocket. I wiped my mouth and took in a few breaths.
"Do you think it's over?"
I shook my head no.
"Can we sit?"
I asked,
"Of course."
He helped lower me down and moved my skirt so it wouldn't get in the vomit.
"It's ok."
He patted my back, and I took in breaths.
"I don't know why I feel this way. I didn't feel sick yesterday."
I muttered,
"Maybe it's just a bug."
"Maybe."
~
I laughed softly at how oblivious we where. How the signs where there. But we just didn't think.
~
"I think I'm good. But my head won't stop spinning."
"I'll carry you."
He picked me up and kicked dirt over the trow up.
"Your ok."
He reassured, kissing my head.
Leslie looked at us wanting an answer.
"She's ok. She's just going to rest."
He shouts,
"Ok. I'll have mama send over some soup!"
She shouts back, I reached down and opened the door for him.
"Thank you."
"Mhm."
I mumbled laying my head on his shoulder. He walked to our room and laid me on the bed.
"There we go."
He said, he sat next to me and I smiled at him.
"You feel a little hot."
I nodded, I felt weak.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For being sick."
"You don't need to apologize for being sick."
He said, He kissed my head.
"I'll be right back"
~
The same things had happened for about eight weeks. I was only in a bra and underskirt when I just looked in the mirror. I immediately noticed a bump.
"Oh!"
I exclaimed, I turned to the side and place a hand on top right under my breast and right under it just above my crotch.
The way it looked I was most likely eleven or twelve weeks pregnant.
"Hey I'm back. What do you think about-"
He stopped when he enter the room. He dropped the saddle bags, mouth hung open.
"Is this what I..."
"Yes."
I whispered still in shock myself.
"We.... I..."
He ran his hand threw his hair trying to find the words. How we didn't connect the dots or notice the bump before this.
"We did it."
He muttered, he repeated that sentence about three time before it processed.
"Oh my god! We did it!"
He shouts, he rushed over and spun me around.
"Oh! Wait I shouldn't do that anymore."
He pulled up his pants so he could kneel down. He placed a hand on the bump and he quickly drew it back after feeling how stiff it was.
Then he placed it down again.
He kissed the bump repeatedly while his hands rested on my waist; and mine onto of his.
"We're parents!"
He muttered against my stomach.
I smiled at him and he stood up.
"Your going to be a mother.I'm... I'm going to be a father!"
He held my arms and kissed me.
Then pulled away.
"We have to tell everyone!"
He started to pull me out of the room.
"James! Wait! I'm not dressed!"
I shouted laughing,
"Right! Hurry get dressed!"
Once I did he dragged me out of the house and ran to Ma and dads house.
~
I'd never forget the sparkling in his eyes. It was constant; doing anything. It could be the most boring thing and he'd make it fun. That sparkle never went away and it probably never did when he...
