Darby snapped her fingers, and Maiken stepped forward. "Ryota," she said, "You first. I want to see if you can truly stand your ground."
Ryota gulped. "Wish me luck." He whispered as he stepped forward. Maiken grinned eagerly as she fitted on her leather gauntlets, and bounced on her toes.
"Don't think I'll go easy on ya." She said.
"Oh yeah?" Ryota twirled his flail. "I won't either."
"Remember, this is just a simple spar." Darby said, grasping her whistle. "No blood shall be shed, or there will be consequences. Got it?" Both of them nodded, and Darby inhaled deeply, before blowing the whistle.
Maiken rushed forward in a flash, her fists striking at Ryota with lightning speed. Ryota was barely able to dodge them as he ducked to and fro. Maiken continued her assault, before spinning around and delivering a roundhouse kick straight to Ryota's head. He stumbled backwards, clutching his head in pain. A bead of sweat dripped down Akahana's cheek as Maiken leapt towards Ryota, aiming for a final punch.
But Ryota was ready. As Maiken's fist approached, Ryota dodged to the side, and wrapped the chain around Maiken's arm. Before she could do anything, he lifted her up and threw her to the ground with a heavy slam. Maiken was breathless, and Darby blew her whistle.
"That's the first round!" Darby shouted. "Ryota has one win!" Akahana and Takahiro clapped, along with Hakon, Gjurd and Eira.
"Quite the maneuver." Hakon complimented.
"He's a wily one." Takahiro smirked proudly. "Although Maiken is also quite the fighter. One punch from her would make anyone drop dead."
Eira smiled. "That's the beauty of her." She giggled, a slight blush forming on her face.
"Tch." Dagfinn scoffed. "He got lucky. Besides, he should be worried."
"Why?" Akahana asked.
"Maiken doesn't like being beat." Gjurd explained. "She's a little bit of a sore loser." He whispered. "And Dagfinn's right. Maiken can get really heated." Maiken stood up and unraveled the chain around her arm, her face slightly red as she tossed the flail to Ryota.
"You alright?" Ryota asked as he picked up his flail.
"Yep." Maiken huffed. "That was sneaky of you." She rubbed her nose. "But I won't fall for it again."
"G-good to know." Ryota stepped back a little.
"Alright! Now its for the second round!" Darby called. "Get ready!" The two of them readied their stances once more, Maiken staring at Ryota with a determined fury. The whistle sounded, and once more, Maiken rushed forward first, her leg arcing towards Ryota. Ryota blocked the kicks in rapid succession, and Maiken struck from the side with her other leg. It connected with Ryota's chest, causing him to wince, and Maiken proceeded to backhand him. With quick precision, she caught him in a tight head lock, and pushed him onto the ground. Ryota attempted to stand up, but Maiken pushed her foot down on his back, officially ending the round.
"You weren't joking." Takahiro murmured as Maiken stepped off of Ryota, her tail swishing proudly behind her.
"That's Maiken for you." Gjurd said. "If you best her, she'll make sure that you're even with her."
"That's one loss for Ryota!" Darby said. "One last round remains! If you lose, then you'll be disqualified."
"Got it." Ryota wiped the sweat off his brow and cracked his neck.
"You ready?" Maiken asked, her yellow eyes ablaze.
"All the way." Ryota tightened his grip on the handle.
