Around 2 am I felt like I needed to push. Kash had fallen asleep in the chair still holding my hand.
"Kash!" I called out and squeezed his hand.
"What's wrong Navy?" He asked trying to wake up.
"I feel like I need to push. Can you go get a nurse please?" I said.
"Oh fuck! Yeah, I'll be back." He said jumping up running out the door.
When he came back Janet was behind him and said she wanted to check me again. "Well, it looks like we are at a ten. No wonder you want to push." Janet said smiling.
Kash came back up to my head and grabbed my hand while Janet put my gown back down. "Let me go get the doctor I'll be right back." She said.
"Ready or not this baby is on its way." I laugh.
"I would like to think that Gavin is here with you right now watching over you while your baby is being born on his birthday," Kash said smiling.
"I sure hope so as well. I'm scared and nervous but I know it's going to be ok and now is your last time to leave if you wish Kash." I said.
"No, I'm not leaving you Navy. I will hold your hand and if it helps to pretend I'm Gavin I'm ok with it." He smiled just as Janet and Dr. Swartz came in.
"Let's have a baby Navy." Dr. Swartz smiled as she got on her gloves and sit on the stool at the bottom of the bed.
I look up at Kash and I'm trying to picture Gavin's face and I know it's wrong but he told me to do it.
"Ok, we need you to push for us Navy," Janet said as she pushed my leg up.
It was a whirlwind and things were moving fast. It didn't take too many pushes and the head was out. I was squeezing Kash's hand so hard but I had no idea it was hurting him. He was making a face but he didn't say anything. He moved the hair off of my forehead and kept telling me how great I was doing.
A few more pushes and I heard the baby cry which made me cry. I looked up at the clock and it was 3:17 am. I silently wished Gavin a happy birthday and when I opened my eyes Dr. Swartz was holding my baby up.
"We have a girl! And look at all of that hair." She said.
I couldn't help but cry when I saw all her hair and her tiny little face. I looked at Kash and he was even teared up himself.
"Ok, dad come cut the cord." Dr. Swartz said.
Kash looked at me and I shook my head yes at him and he hesitantly cut the cord. I could tell he didn't want to be near my junk I was half-naked still.
They took the baby away to clean her up and Kash was back up at my head. He leaned down and kissed my forehead. "I'm sorry Navy." He said.
"Don't be sorry it's fine Kash. Thank you for being here with me." I said.
Janet brought my baby girl back over and placed her on my chest and I couldn't take my eyes off of her. "Oh my god, she's beautiful." I cry.

She had so much hair and she looked just like Gavin.
"She's a very beautiful baby Navy. You did such a great job too. So what is her name?" Kash asked.
"Lanie Gwendolyn Smithson. Her middle name is after my mom and well Smithson was Gavin's last name." I said.
"I love the name it's beautiful. Can I send a picture to Desmond and Ivy?" He asked.
"Oh yeah please do. Hope it doesn't wake up Desmond." I laugh.
After holding her for a little while I ask Kash if he wanted to hold her and he was hesitant because he didn't know anything about babies.
"Just always hold her head and you will be fine. See how I'm holding her? This is how I want you to hold her." I said.
"I can do that." He smiled as I handed Lanie over to him and he cuddled her into his chest and she made a noise and he made a funny face.
"She's fine Kash. You're doing a great job." I smile at him holding her. I grab my phone and take his picture with her.
After a little while, Kash went to go get us some food from the cafeteria and I was taught how to breastfeed Lanie and she caught on fast like a pro.
By the time Kash came back, I was burping Lanie and then Ivy came in. "Oh my god give her to me!" Ivy laughed.
I handed her over to Ivy while Kash and I ate. "So you stayed in the room with her Kash?" Ivy asked.
"I did and I cut the cord since they thought I was her dad." He said.
"Ivy the most amazing thing happened. I was planning on spending the day crying in bed because today is Gavin's birthday. But like Kash said now I have something to be happy about and celebrate." I smile.
"Oh wow it was meant to be today then and Kash is right." Ivy smiled.
"She was born at 3:17 am so I'm happy about it but also sad that he wasn't here. But the whole time that Kash held my hand I was thinking of Gavin." I said.
"Yeah, I told her to pretend I was him if it helped her any." He said biting into his burger.
"That was sweet Kash. Umm Des said he would be up in a little bit. He cant wait to hold her." Ivy smiled.
"Sounds like you need a baby then." I laugh.
Ivy's eyes got big... "Umm, I'm not sure about that." She laughed.
