Jennie questioned how she had gotten into bed, she didn't remember going in her room on her own. Lisa must have moved her. She got up to get something for breakfast, she hadn't been able to eat at all yesterday after speaking with her mother, she had been too angry. She wobbled into the kitchen, her eyes fuzzy from sleep and her legs stiff. She found the note on her table that Lisa had written her. She scanned over it and set it back down. She got food out and made herself scrambled eggs with toast.
As she was cooking she thought about Lisa, about how she had insisted to come in. At first she was angry that Lisa was being so boorish, that she wasn't taking no for an answer. And Jennie just hadn't had the energy to fight Lisa last night. But that was how the latter was. Letting Lisa in had been a good idea, in the end. She had been able to tell her about her grandmother, and what happened with her mother. She had been able to get her anger out and cry and be held. It didn't ease the pain of losing her much, but it still felt nice to have someone there for her. She appreciated that Lisa had been a gentle and tucked her into bed. She owed her a thank you, she thought. She would go see her later that evening, to tell her.
----
Lisa sat on her bed, looking at her wall of pictures. She was contemplating going over to Jennie's when she heard a light knock on the door. It surprised her, not expecting anyone. She got up and opened the door, this was a crummy neighborhood and it wouldn't be the first time a weird neighbor had knocked on the door looking for a few bucks or a ride to the liquor store.
But when she opened the door the air left his lungs, it was Jennie standing there. She looked stunning. She had a burnt orange sweater on over tight blue jeans, with a navy blue scarf wrapped around her neck loosely. Her hair hung around her face. She looked cozy and warm, and so inviting. After the initial amazement of Jennie being on her doorstep passed, she panicked. Jennie would want to come inside and Lisa had all those pictures of her up. How was she going to explain that?
"Hey," Jennie said, quietly. She seemed slightly uncomfortable being there. "Sorry I should've called first huh?" She continued, reading the look on Lisa's face. Lisa shook her head and cleared her throat.
"No, no, its fine. Hi." Lisa answered.
"May I...come in?" Jennie asked, meekly; feeling unsure of being there. Lisa didn't look happy to see her, which caught her off guard.
"Uhhh..." Lisa hesitated; looking back quickly at her apartment then returned her gaze back to Jennie. "Sure, of course. Come in, sorry." She stuttered, apologetically. She smiled at Jennie nervously and opened the door wider for her to come in. Lisa felt her stomach knot up, but not in the excited way it usually did when she saw Jennie. The former was afraid of how Jennie was going to react; Lisa knew this wouldn't go well. How stupid, she should have stayed at Jennie's place last night; she shouldn't have left her, what had she been thinking?
Jennie walked into Lisa's place and looked around slowly. The former's gaze finally fell on Lisa's wall by her bed. Jennie back was to Lisa and the latter couldn't see her reaction. She walked closer to the wall and stood there for a few moments. Lisa held her breath, waiting. She heard Jennie "hmmm" to herself then turned towards her.Jennie didn't look scared or angry. It didn't even seem to faze her. Lisa exhaled finally and smiled at her, nervously.
"Uh, I can explain that," Lisa started, walking towards her. She rubbed at the back of her head, scratching her hair. Jennie held up her hand to Lisa and shook her head.
"Don't worry about it Lisa, it's uhhh...it's not a big deal." Jennie could now clearly see how strong Lisa's obsession was with her. She knew this kind of behavior was not normal, but that wasn't what she had come there to discuss. She owed her a thank you, regardless. "I wanted to come and say thank you for last night." She watched Lisa's expression change drastically. Her face softened and her shoulders relaxed. She let go of the tight grip she had on her hair and exhaled deeply at Jennie's words. This calmed Lisa, Jennie could tell.
