There are a lot of things that people could describe as one of the best feelings in the world: taking off your heels after a long day, warm baths, getting good news, and hugs.
For you though, being the one to drag Heather out to a cop car in cuffs, has to be one of the best things you've ever experienced thus far. You don't even try to hide the satisfactory smirk on your face as she squirms and writhes in the cuffs, complaining loudly when you aggressively shove her in the backseat of the cop car. As the cars about to drive off, you give her a sickeningly sweet smile and a wave, not even trying to mask your contentment now that she's going away for good.
What's even better is the fact that her boyfriend basically ratted her out, and didn't need much convincing from Hotch during the interrogation. He explains how Heather convinced him to go through with the kidnapping and that he just went along with it. Guess he didn't love Heather as much as she thought he did, since he was quick to throw her under the bus to save his own ass. Little did he know, Heather did the same thing. It really was a match made in heaven.
The bullpen is mostly empty now, JJ and Morgan already gone, leaving you, Spencer, and Emily in the bullpen, and Hotch still in his office. Spencer's tried talking to you today, but you don't give him enough time to get more than two words in before you're pushing past him before he can say anything. He's said enough already.
You grip your pen tighter as you feel his eyes burning holes into the back of your head. It gets to the point where it's distracting and unbearable, and you drop your pen on the desk, snapping your head around to look him dead in the eyes. He goes wide-eyed, not expecting you to look at him. You keep your eyes narrowed at his sorrow-filled expression until he backs down, picking up his pen and going back to filling out his papers. Emily glances between you both with a furrowed brow, making eye contact with you briefly as you stand up and walk into the break room.
You start the coffee pot and grab your mug from the cupboard, waiting for the coffee to brew. You turn your head to look over your shoulder at the sound of clacking heels growing closer until you can see Emily beside you, her own mug in her hands. "Hey, Y/N," she gives you a radiant smile, which your return just as enthusiastically. "Can I ask you a question? You can tell me if I'm overstepping."
You nod your head, "Of course, what's up?"
"Are you and Reid, you know... together?" She treads lightly, speaking slowly. Your entire body tenses at the mention of his name before shaking your head. "No, we're not. Why?" You stir in the sugar and the creamer into your coffee, moving aside so Emily can make her own coffee.
"Good to know," she mumbles to herself. "So, hypothetically speaking, if I were to ask if you wanted to grab a drink with me. What would you say?"
You glance at her side profile curiously. Is she asking you out right now? Surely not, right? "Hypothetically speaking, I'd say yes," you give her a small smile over the rim of your mug, your eyes crinkling up slightly at the corners.
"What about non-hypothetically?"
You take a sip of the coffee again to hide the rising heat to your cheeks. You're surprised, honestly. You always thought Emily was pretty, but you never expected her to like you in any way other than a friend, especially since the two of you aren't super close. "My answer doesn't change," you answer honestly. "Is this your way of asking?"
"Wel that depends. Is this your way of saying yes?" You nod your head, giving her a small grin. "Then yes, this is me asking. Would you like to get a drink sometime?"
You hesitate slightly before nodding. "Yeah, I'd like that," you respond. "Great. I'll call you?" You nod in response, giving her a small wave as you return back to your desk. You've reached the final stretch, nearly finished up your paperwork. You begin to write frantically as you see Emily begin to pack up her things, and being alone with Reid in the bullpen is the last thing you want.
