As you walk into the station the next morning, you make a conscious effort to avoid Reid at all costs. Perhaps you caught him on a bad day yesterday and that's why he was acting frigid and cold, but you did not want a repeat of yesterday today. It was only your second day and you definitely didn't want to make an enemy so early on into your career at the BAU. As you walk out of your hotel room, you look up when you hear the sound of the door closing directly adjacent to yours. You look up to see the familiar head of brown hair exiting his room, you offer him a small smile which was not returned to you.
"Good morning, Reid."
"Not anymore it's not," he mumbles quietly to himself.
You huff a breath and look down at your watch to see you were supposed to be in the lobby three minutes ago, meaning you were late. "Shit," this prompts Spencer to look at his own watch on his wrist, realizing he was in fact late. You sprint over to the elevator with him hot on your trail, the elevator opens within seconds and you hold the door open. You see Spencer jogging down the hallway toward the elevator and make a split-second decision to press the close doors button, no matter how petty it may be.
You jog into the lobby to see the team, excluding Spencer already gathering. Hotch's expression remains unreadable, so you aren't sure what to expect after being late on only your second day. "Sorry I'm late, it won't happen again."
"No worries, we actually aren't due at the station for another ten minutes." You exhale in relief and take a seat on the lobby chair beside JJ who offers you a small smile. "Anyone seen Reid?"
"I'm here!" You glance up to see him jogging toward the group, his hand gripping the strap of his satchel to prevent it from bouncing up and down. You feel your stomach drop as he goes out of his way to narrow his eyes at you and shoot a harsh glare in your direction. If you were unsure about being on his bad side before, you were most definitely certain he hated you now.
Just as Hotch opened his mouth to speak once more, the phone in his pocket began to ring and he pulls it out and excuses himself from the group to answer it. You can see his eyebrows knit together and you could tell it looked serious, and you could only assume it had something to do with the case. He shuts the phone off and shoves it back into his pocket, rejoining the group. "There's been another body."
"Rossi and I will head to the ME, and JJ and Morgan will head to the latest crime scene. Reid, Y/L/N will head to the station and work on the geographical profile. Am I clear?" Everyone mumbles their confirmations and head to do their assigned tasks. You resist the urge to roll your eyes, but Reid seems to have given in to the urge, rolling his eyes at the mere idea of having to work alongside you. Of course, you'd managed to get paired off with the only agent in the BAU you'd managed to make an enemy out of so quickly.
You snatch the keys from Hotch and walk over to the SUV, putting the keys in the ignition and turning them in the engine. The passenger door swings open and in comes Reid, slamming the door behind him loud enough to make you flinch slightly. You don't dare sneak a glance at him when he buckles his seatbelt, only switching the gear into reverse and pulling out of the spot and driving to the station. You reach over to fiddle with the radio and continually flip through the stations to find one that you like. It must have been annoying Spencer because he reaches over and moves your hand away, muting the radio before leaning back in his seat and crossing his arms over his chest and angling his knees away from you, a clear sign of dislike.
You inhale sharply and continue to drive in absolute silence, only listening to the incessant sound of Reid's converse tapping on the rubber mat of the car like a metronome. You tap your fingers against the leather steering wheel in an attempt to try and distract yourself from the uncomfortable atmosphere in the car. The car hasn't even come to a complete stop when Spencer unbuckles his seatbelt and jumps out of the car, slamming his door behind him while you go to park. You shove the keys in your pocket and beeline for the conference room where Reid is already working on the geographical profile. You see he has a cup of coffee in his hands and finds yourself sighing, realizing just how desperately you wanted a cup. He notices this, obviously, picking up the mug and taking a long sip and sighing afterwards as if to rub it in your face.
