Three solid knocks on the door led Hades to where he stood now.
Marie had a sour expression on her face as she pushed a child slightly towards him, using the palm of her hand to do so. He was caught off guard by her long wavy brown hair that fell over her shoulders, streaked with gray and tiny beads. The last he could recall of her was that she liked her hair to be rather short, so it was a slight difference.
However that wasn’t the only difference to her that he noticed. Her cheeks looked sunken, her cheekbones rather prominent against her dark brown skin. She was wearing a deep velvet pant suit to match with shiny black heels that glimmered in the sunlight coming in from behind her.
Hades looked at the little girl being forced into his home. She had shoulder length curly brown hair that gave off the look of cinnamon sticks, golden eyes that shined brightly, as if they were meant to blind him. Her brown skin was as brown as a roasted coffee bean, matching the tone of her mother’s. It surprised him to say the least.
“Marie, what-”
“Take her, she’s yours to deal with now.” Marie claimed, her expression as cold as ever as she practically shoved the little girl into Hades, before turning and walking away with a poised back, head tilted towards the sky.
“Marie, wait!” Hades cried out, passing by the little girl to chase after the woman, who was just about to get into her car.
“What do you need?” She asked him, snapping her intense pools of black oil onto his figure.
“What happened?” He asked, trying to cover the heavy amount of desperateness in his voice and dethrone the urge to drop to his knees as he pleaded for information.
“I’m sick. My days are numbered, and I’m not about to leave my only child alone in this world when I know she has a father that is perfectly capable of looking after her.” Marie claimed, before shutting the door to her car and driving away, leaving Hades with small bits of information that just led to numerous more questions.
“Huh?” Hades breathed, watching the car drive off as his brain went on overdrive, trying to piece all the information into a puzzle he could hopefully solve. He stayed there for a few moments, before returning to his house in slow motion.
When he reached the porch, the little girl looked at him with beseeching golden jewels, tugging at the hem of her frilly dress in an attempt to rid herself of the awkward situation her mother had just put her in.
For a moment everything was silent, until clarity came to Hades. Because maybe the world was giving him a second chance. Maybe it’s telling him to be a father to this young girl. The father he never was to his own son. It’s giving him something to right his past wrongs, and at this point he’ll do anything to get that.
“My name’s Hades di Angelo. What’s yours?” He started, holding out a hand for the little girl to shake. She stared at it in a daze, before looking up to his face, studying it.
“Hazel Levesque.” She replied sheepishly, timidly shaking his hand.
“Well then, Hazel, since you’re in the family now, how about I introduce you to everyone else.” Hades offered, stepping inside his home, dragging Hazel behind him.
“Everyone else?” Hazel squeaked, causing a small chuckle to release from her father’s throat.
“Don’t worry, it’s only two other people. Hopefully it’s not overwhelming.”
Just then, Persephone rounded the corner in front of them, arms crossed and a slightly irritated look on her face, until her eyes landed on Hazel. An eyebrow perked.
