Grass crunched underneath his boots as he made his way towards the backside of the mansion, sweeping away stray tree branches that wanted to get tangled up in his gnarled midnight black hair and in the puffs of fur coming from the bent tips of his aviator’s jacket with his hands.
He didn’t have a watch on him, but considering the position of the moon it was nearing midnight very soon, which sent a rush of adrenaline through his veins as he raced to the ladder he had used a few weeks ago to get inside of Percy’s room, before everything went to hell.
While technically he was always welcome to just waltz through the front door at any time, he doubted Sally would appreciate being woken up at midnight to open the door for him, since they lock it every night and Gabe refused to have extra keys made to hide anywhere out of paranoia.
The higher he got, using his hands to grip at the corners of each step, and his legs to boost himself up, the more energy he felt. Sometimes being an insomniac is a blessing to him. Yes, it had many effects and tolls, but right now, he wasn’t going to worry about how this was going to mess up his sleep schedule for the next month.
Nico could hear his breathing and heart pounding mixed with the sounds of crickets chirping away to one another, and even a very distant howl at the moon. Those stupid wolves loved to stand at the cliff, and he never could understand why.
When he reached the second window, he gently tried to even out his weight before knocking on the large window pane, giving three gentle yet firm knocks before waiting. It was hard for him to see in the dark, even with the moonlight, so he couldn’t tell if he woke up Percy or not.
He waited for what felt like five solid minutes before knocking again, this time a little louder. It was slightly chilly with the small breeze bustling about, but Nico didn’t patoo much mind to it. As long as it wasn’t about to give him frostbite, he would be fine. Even though his cousin, Will Solace, would say otherwise.
Nico sighed and was about to knock a third time, just when he heard the latch to the window sound out. He backed away so the window could open, and before Percy could even question Nico’s tactics, Nico started climbing in, slinging one leg in, evening his weight on the ledge, before free falling for a moment, only to land on his two feet, trying to make as little sound as possible.
“Nico, what-” Percy started, but was cut off by a quick kiss to the lips. He blinked when Nico pulled back, clearly trying to process everything, then looked back at the clock. 12:03. Perfect, Nico thought.
Percy was clearly about to say something, but Nico cut him off once again, gripping at the hem of his pajama shirt to pull his body closer. He caught Percy off guard, which was usually harder than he thought. But every time he managed to do so, he would reminiscence in the feeling.
“Happy birthday, il mio amore.” Nico whispered, barely pulling back away from Percy’s lips before dragging him even closer, the temptation to show Percy how much he loved him running deep through his body, spreading a fire throughout his bones and adding heat to his pulse.
“Nico.” Percy started to say, only to be cut off again. Percy’s mind was torn. Either let this happen, and give in, or try to knock the younger teen into common sense. “Nico.”
“Hmmm?” Nico hummed, not bothering to release his hold on Percy’s shirt or stop giving the tiny fleeting kisses across his neck.
“It’s midnight. What are you doing here?” Percy hissed, his legs wobbling underneath the sullen pleasure spreading quickly across his heated skin.
