“Do we?” Percy retorted, clenching his hands into fits, one holding on firmly to Nico’s hand, being careful enough to not hurt the other. “Because last I could remember, you left us after finding out my mom was pregnant. You do not get to tell me-”

“Percy.” Poseidon’s voice boomed, bouncing off the walls in the hospital room, causing Percy to cut off his own rant. He sent a look through his eyes, trying to communicate to his son.

Somehow, Percy understood. He was finally going to talk to his birth father, but he wasn’t about to do it in front of Nico. Especially not since Nico’s already gotten too involved in his family issues. He was the reason the love of his life almost hit a critical state, he’s not going to pick a fight with the older man in front of him.

“Fine.” Percy huffed, releasing his grip on Nico’s hand, looking back when he reached the door to see Nico giving him a tiny positive smile, trying to soothe Percy’s spirit. It helped, if only a little bit. Percy gave his best smile towards him before shutting the door as he walked out of the room.

He crossed his arms, looking at his birth father expectantly, waiting for Poseidon to start warding off excuse after excuse.

“I understand I’m not your favorite person right now-” Poseidon started, getting cut off by Percy.

“You’re just a step above Gabe.” Percy sneered, causing Poseidon to grimace.

“Can’t say I blame you. I didn’t like my dad much either.”

Percy snorted. “You’re no dad. You just happen to be half of the reason I exist.”

At this, Poseidon’s eyes grew dark. “Listen here, boy, you don’t even know the entire story of your existence.”

“Maybe it’s just better that way.” Percy retaliated, letting Poseidon feed his urge to punch something. Most likely his jaw, but a wall would do.

“Do you really feel that way? Or do you want to know the entire story of why I left?” Poseidon asked, provoking a shocked look on Percy’s face.

“What?” Percy asked, feeling taken aback. His head started to spin slightly. For so long he had waited for this day, dreamed of it as a kid. Thought up so many scenarios as to why he could have left. Each one pained him, and after he grew up, from the moment Gabe started telling him stories of the real world, his fantasies vanished, being replaced with only nightmares. Only they were reality.

“I came here to explain myself.” Poseidon pronounced. Percy took a step back in disturbance of all he knew in his mind.

“After all this time, you choose now to do it?” Percy’s voice wavered as he tried to hold himself back. All of his past emotions, the feeling of want and need of real answers as to why his birth father left him and his mom overwhelming him. It was a tidal wave carrying away the barriers of gritty sand of the beach, each wave taking more and more, slowly dissolving his facade and mental walls.

Only two people in his life knew of his imaginations of this day. Nico and his mom. They were both so important to him, he carried them in his heart and opened up to only them. Because he could trust them, and no one else. Nico was unexpected, came barging in with all types of weapons.

Bombs to throw at the small dents in his walls, opening up his own emotions about his past in order to help Percy break past the thick barriers. Guns were shot, when he gave Percy moments of panic, that weakened his walls. But the greatest weapon of all had been his heart. It surpassed anything Percy could ever build to try and stop it.
