"No. The answer is no, Win."
"You haven't even heard what I was going to say, Anya. How can you turn me down easily?" Win said, the corners of his mouth turning into a slight pout. His cute tactics would probably work with his fiance, Bright, but not with Anya.
"Whatever or whoever it is that made you come to my house at 8am on a Saturday is probably going to cause me trouble. So the answer is no,Win. Sorry, honey, the pouting isn't gonna work on me. Go home and ask Bright. He can't deny you anything, after all."
Seriously, though, what is Anya even expecting? Win is not gonna stop pestering her until she helps him.
"Phi Bai alone can't help me with this, Anya. I really need your help. You're the only one who can do this. Remember how you helped me and Phi Bai? You helped the other Phi's too, right? Look at them now, P'Krist and P'Singto celebrated their first wedding anniversary, P'Off and P'Gun are on their honeymoon, and P'Tay and P'New are finally getting married after several rescheduling. Only you can do this, Anya. Please. Please. Please."
Anya sighed at Win's monologue. She did help all these men with their love woes, but it wasn't like she was an expert. She prayed her tactics would work back then, but everything was a set of trial-and-error, coupled with a lot of back-up plans and back-up plans to the back-up plans.
But Anya knows Win isn't taking no for an answer just like two years ago. Might as well try another strategy to convince Win to give up on getting her help.
"You know the rules, Win. Whoever this is who wants my help needs to agree to my terms. I'm entitled to one favor - no conditions asked, no boundaries or limits - in exchange for helping her or him. When I call in that favor, he or she has to do it or give what I ask for regardless of the price."
"He knows about it, Anya. He's desperate and he'll give you anything if you agree to help him. Price isn't going to be an issue, not when his father's face is printed on money."
"What do you mean his father's face is on the money? For heaven's sake, Win, don't tell me..."
Anya knew what the answer would be, but she wanted to hear it from Win. The faces on the Thai baht are no other than the Kings of Thailand, so this person who's asking for her help could only be a member of the Royal family.
Win pulled out his puppy eyes before speaking to Anya again. "You remember I had a class with the youngest son of the King, right? Prince Mix. We were in acting class the year before we graduated from college. He really needs our help, Anya. Please."
"Prince Mix? As in the one who' s getting married to some foreign princess in two months?"
"Yeah, that's him. Alicia isn't a princess though, she's some kind of a duchess or something. Mix doesn't understand why they're suddenly rushing his marriage, though. The Crown Prince is already married and will soon have an heir. It isn't like the throne is going to be empty soon."
There was a lot of speculations about that too, when the marriage of the 22-year old prince was announced about two weeks ago. It's one thing to marry off the prince at such a young age, but it's a completely different thing to have him marry a foreigner. In the end, though, most of the people just thought of it as a political move, just like most royal marriages are.
"Win, honey, are you serious? This is the Royal Wedding we're talking about. I've dealt with fashion icons, famous band members, and rich entreprenuers, but the Royal Family is on a different league. We can't mess with the Royalty. It's just going to cause us a whole lot of problems and thousands of enemies."
God, this smells a whole lot of trouble and Anya is not in the mood for it. She returned to Thailand last month to save the publishing arm of their family's business, The Year, from bankruptcy. She has no time to play cupid now.
"Anya, he's willing to help your family's business."
Goddammit, Win Metawin. This guy maybe sweet and innocent-looking, but he's not simple-minded. The rising actor of Thailand definitely knows how to play his cards.
"Win..."
"Anya, please. Mix feels so miserable right now. He doesn't want to get tied to a person he doesn't love."
"Win, remember what I told you before? A love like yours and Bright is not something everybody is fortunate to find. You can't expect every person around you to have the same fairytale ending. You and Bright, even Krist and Singto, Off and Gun, Tay and New - you guys are lucky to have found that kind of love. The reality is, not everyone is going to find true love in this lifetime."
"Can we not at least try? Please, Anya. For once, Mix wants to have some control over his life. From birth until now, everything he did was for the Royal Family. Just this once, he wants to do something for himself."
Anya wanted to tell Win that Mix doesn't have much of a choice. Every privilege in this world comes with a hefty price tag.
"Anya, there's one more thing you need to know. Alicia's family is thinking of investing in Thailand. They're going to start with buying the biggest publishing companies - your two biggest competitors - and merging it into one big media enterprise. Think of this as hitting two birds with one stone. You prevent Mix's marriage, no merger will happen and it will give you better chances of reviving The Year."
Now that is a different story. Anya couldn't care less about the issues of the Royal Family but if it affects her family, that completely changes her views on this "wedding of the year" as people would call it."That isn't possible, it doesn't make sense. Why would some foreigner be interested in acquiring publishing companies in Thailand?" Anya said, as she pulls up the browser on her phone. There should at least be some news about this if this is true.
"Fine, search it up. Mix said the plan's getting finalize within the month so there's probably some rumors about it online. Apparently, Alicia's family wants to keep a good image of her for the Thai people. She's a foreigner and some may not accept her immediately. They're buying the publishing companies to make sure only good things about her and her country gets out in public."
Anya was only half-listening to Win but it's enough to confirm the rumors online. For public figures such as the Royal Family, public image is very important, so while this seems to be an overkill, the tactic actually makes sense. Controlling what gets out to the public would probably prevent tons of headache for the Royal Family.
"Fine, Win. You win. Give me a few days to think this over, but let's try to help Mix without getting ourselves arrested or beheaded for messing up with the Royal family."
Win flashed that gorgeous smile that makes fans swoon before hugging Anya tightly.
"Thank you, Anya. You're the best. I'll tell Mix, then may be we can meet up after a few days?" Win asked, before kissing Anya on the cheek to highlight how thankful he is.
Anya sighed deeply before answering. "That'll do Win. Now that conversation is over, do you want to have some breakfast? We're gonna need some serious brain power now. After all, we have a royal wedding to wreck."
