"How long?" Aran asked White in a cold, harsh tone. The Royal didn't even look at White as he continued to scroll on his phone and read the rumors making rounds online about the deteriorating health of the pregnant Crown Princess. He needs to know how long they should
wait before their next move."A few more days, Sir." White said as he stood on the other side of the huge wooden table in the Palace library. The bookshelf leading to the Guardian's Alley was wide open. Aran and White knew about the passage but it was surprising to know that the Prince is apparently working with people with very useful resources.
Not that it mattered.
With the Crown Prince tied to the hospital bed where his wife is confined and the King locked in his office as he tried to mobilize every man under his command to find his youngest son, the Throne is practically empty.
Not for long though, because Aran has every move planned out, every step calculated until the day he can claim the Throne that is rightfully his.
Taking the Crown Princess out of the picture is just the beginning.
"Fine. Let the Prince enjoy his peace for a week or two. How's the Princess?"
"She's stable, Sir. The doctors we paid for are keeping the real cause of her hospitalization under the wraps."
"The baby?"
"Doing fine as well. The meds affected the fetus too, but the doctors managed to stabilize him as well."
"Resume the meds, then."
"Excuse me?" Alicia, who was quietly watching the exchange between Aran and White, was unable to control her sudden rage. Overdose of the medicine they were secretly giving to
the Crown Princess was said to cause damage to the fetus. The Princess already suffered some of the side effects, such as dizziness and lost of balance. She almost fell down the stairs and it alarmed the Crown Prince so they had her hospitalized."The baby needs to be gone, my lady. That child will be closer to the throne than your soon-to-be husband, so he needs to be gone." Aran knew that the women in the Royal family were only as good as their capacity to bear the next heir of the King. Without a child, the Crown Princess is just an ornament on the Crown Prince's arm.
"That wasn't what we agreed on!"
"No, little duchess, because we didn't count on the Princess getting pregnant this early. But we did agree on one thing - you marry Mix and bear his child. I'll handle everything else."
"I didn't agree on murdering a helpless child, you devil!" Alicia's words are almost blurry with her heavy Italian accent out of control because of her anger.
"Mi disgusti" Alicia said, not noticing that she's now speaking Italian rather than English.
Aran understood it but it wasn't like it affected him. He grew up to harsher words lashed out by his own so-called mother. So he spoke to Alicia with a face devoid of any emotion. "It's the Princess' son or yours, Alicia. Only one gets to live in the Palace."
Aran stood and looked at White in the eye before speaking in Thai so Alicia won't understand a word. "Talk to your woman, White. I didn't think the Prince would actually leave the Palace and make it easier for us to blame the Crown Princess' overdose on him, but now that things are going well, I don't need this little Italian brat ruining everything, understood?"
White could only nod. He knew dealing with the devil himself was dangerous, but he had no choice. At this point, he could only follow Aran's orders.
As soon as Aran left the room, Alicia closed the distance between her and White and wrap her arms around her lover.
"We don't need to do this."
