"Can you please try to look less suspicious, Ai'Tay?" New harshly whispered to Tay.
"What? What do you mean? I look perfectly normal - just your normal IT guy to troubleshoot the hospital's technical issues." Tay said proudly, making a show of him fixing his tie, just like how those guys in movies do. Totally not helping with their plan to stay undetected as they head to the main control room of the hospital where the Crown Princess is confined.
New just shook his head. After all these years, he still wonders how he fell head over heels with this goofy guy. He is handsome, for one, but New isn't the type to just settle for what's on the surface. Beyond the good-looking rich guy, however, is the guy who trips on his own feet, burns his morning pancakes, spills coffee on his laptop and at one point left his phone - with confidential information on the biggest tech company in Thailand (which is Tay owns) - in the taxi.
But then, this is exactly what New loves about Tay - everyday with Tay is a new experience, a new adventure to conquer, a new chance to do things that make them feel alive. Sometimes he feels like he knows Tay well enough to keep him safe from his own silliness that could sometimes be a little dangerous, but Tay just surprises him with new ideas that are often bolder and crazier than the last.
Take for example this poor attempt for them to play as spies. Ever since they learned that the Crown Princess was being poisoned by someone from within the Palace, they've tried to look for ways to get their hands on concrete proof.
And in a digital world like ours, the most valuable asset - information- is stored in the eyes fixed on every corner of public places like hospitals. CCTV.
"Excuse me, how long are you going to stand there and chitchat? We've been waiting for the cameras to get fixed for almost an hour now, can you speed up a little?" says the middle-aged lady who looked like the typical head nurse.
"On it, Ma'am", says New, discreetly elbowing his fiancé so they could do what they were supposed to do.
"Will it take long? There are VIPs all over the place, with the Crown Princess confined here."
"Uhmm...shouldn't be too long, but let me check," Tay said, trying to sound as convincing as he is. For the last few years, he's been focused on running the business side of things, while New was the one who was more hands-on with their products. It's been a while since Tay had to troubleshoot anything, either for systems testing or actual setting.
Thank heavens for New. The guy looked like he was seriously trying to figure out what was wrong, why the CCTV monitors were nothing but a blank screen. As if it weren't them who caused the problem in the first place.
New bugged the hospital system to make a copy of all CCTV recordings for the last three months. Now they only need to get the copy from the hospital server, since that'll be safer than accessing the file from a remote area which could be traced, or exposing an IP address which could be linked to him or Tay.
With one final click, the monitors lit up with live feed coming from the hundreds of CCTV scattered in the hospital. CCTVs appear to be working again, meaning New has completed copying the recordings from the hospital's server.
"That was fun," Tay said, his heart-shaped lips curling into a happy smile. New was already driving (because Tay couldn't) but he could still see his fiancé grinning from ear to ear. They're on their way to meet Anya and the rest of the guys at the beach house.
"Of course it was fun for you. All you had to do was pretend to tap a few keys while I did the work." New said, rolling his eyes.
"I'm the perfect disguise, you know? You couldn't get anyone who would look as innocent as me."
