"6PM, Siam Paragon this Friday. It's a date, Your Highness."
Mix looked at the light green envelope that Anya handed to him. It had a wax stamp with "OG" embossed on it.
"What should I wear?"
"Off will send you clothes. I assume someone in the Palace shops for you? Can I get your measurements so they can customize the clothes to your size?"
"No, I do my own shopping. I'll send them what they need."
After the dinner last weekend, Mix is now connected to some of the biggest personalities in Thailand. He might be the Prince, but he still can't believe that he can easily call the CEO of the biggest electronics company in Thailand, DBK technologies, or that he's been invited to the most anticipated fashion show of the decade - OffGun's first collaboration as a married couple. He already had VIP passes to BDC concerts because of Win, but its a totally different thing when the lead vocalist himself invited the Prince to their concert.
"Are you scared?" Anya surprised Mix by asking. She seemed like a no-nonsense type of girl, and Mix is sure she won't be happy if he voices out his doubts.
"A little." Mix wanted to stay as honest with Anya as he could. After all, he sort of dragged her into this mess. "But let me do it. I want to do it. For once, I want to call this life my own."
Anya smiled a little but Mix can't read her expression. "I cannot guarantee you anything, Your Highness. What you saw between the couples during the last weekend's dinner does not come very often. I believe everyone deserves a love like that, the kind that helps you get through each day with a smile on your face. Sadly, not everyone gets a chance to find that kind of love."
Mix nodded. "All I want is a chance, Anya. Give me that and I'll do whatever I can to make the most out of it."
This time, Anya looked at Mix straight into the eyes. "Good. I had to make sure I know who I'm up against."
"What do you mean?"
"I needed to know if you're all in, Mix. Getting cold feet is fine, but if you don't think you can finish this, it's better if we don't get started. I had to know, Mix, if your doubts are going to be the biggest enemy."
"Did I pass?"
"Barely." Anya smiled and stood up from her seat. "Take care, Mix. You have four more days to think about this. I'll call this off the moment you tell me you can't go against the King's wishes." Anya left without waiting for Mix to answer.
"Your Highness." Earth's voice surprised Mix. He spoke with a low, firm tone, as if calmly reprimanding a disobedient child.
"Captain. I'm done. Let me just finish this coffee and we can go." Mix was avoiding Earth's eyes. He knows that with one look, Earth is going to figure out what he's up to. It's only been a year since Earth started working for him, but the man had a unique way of seeing through Mix's poker face. Somehow, Earth knew when Mix was irritated, nervous, or uncomfortable, and he had a silent way of saving Mix from misery.
"You don't need to do this. Let's stop whatever this is and stick to the King's plans, shall we?" Now Earth sounded...concerned. Mix gathered the courage to look away from his cup and look at Earth. He has a gentle look on his face as he stared at Mix with pleading eyes.
"Captain. Just this once...please," Mix said, the last word barely coming out as a whisper.
Mix caught the way Earth's eyes shifted to something else the moment he said "please".
"Please, Captain. I won't need you to do anything. Just let me and my friends be."
Mix wasn't sure begging Earth would work, but the way his normally stoic expression slightly soften at Mix's pleading gave him a tiny hope.
"I'm really worried about you, Your Highness. I'm not in the place to tell you what to do, but I sincerely hope you prevent doing things that will put you in danger. I will give my life to protect you, Your Highness. But if you oppose the King, I'm afraid my life won't be enough to save you from him."
Mix shouldn't be feeling nice hearing Earth's words, because technically, he's asking him to back off and give up the chance at marrying on his own terms, to a partner of his choice. Mix knows Earth is just doing his job, but the way he said that he'd give his life to ensure Mix's safety almost felt like a confession of love.
I don't need you to die for me, Earth. I need you to live for me. I want you to want me.
"Your Highness?"
Shit. Mix didn't say that out loud did he?
"My apologies, Your Highness. I didn't mean to offend you. I understand if you won't talk to me any time soon but please think it over."
Right. Okay. He didn't say those stupid things out.
Mix averted his eyes and stood up without answering Earth. He isn't sure his mind and mouth won't betray him, so he decided staying silent was the best.

Saturday, Five days later"Your Highness, wake up, please. For your sake and mine, get up."
White's voice startled Mix. His head hurt a little, most probably due to hangover. It's been a while since he had as much fun as last night.
So instead of getting up, Mix just groaned and covered his eyes with the blanket
"Goddammit, Mix. Get your ass out of bed right this second or I swear on the King's name I'm gonna drag you myself."
Shit, that was harsh. White had never talked to him like that since he became the Royal Advisor. They used to diss each other back in college, but once White assumed an official role, he had always been respectful and formal. Mix missed his friend, but not this fuming, hotheaded White.
"I'm up, I'm up. What's so wrong in the morning? I know you didn't like being sent on a one week-"
Before Mix finished, White started throwing newspapers on Mix's bed, before he handed Mix an iPad.
Of course, the Prince is on the front page of every paper, he's the most searched name on the internet and his presence in OffGun's fashion show is the most trending topic.
"Please tell me you have some brilliant idea to fix this shit, Mix. I'm drawing a blank here so you better help me."
Holy shit. Was it supposed to happen this way?
