Allan James wakes slowly, still tired from a long night of working in his office. He was up until 2:30 am, and his boss decided to give him a bit less work for today; it is Saturday, after all. He gets up, walks to the kitchen, and takes a seat at the table. Bright morning light comes in from several windows, and the room has a cheery look to it. James locates his iPad and turns it on, tapping to the newspaper app. He scrolls through the morning news, frowning at the world’s unsolved issues and chuckling at the stupidity of some politicians. Before long, his wife, Rachel, comes and joins him in the kitchen, soon followed by his two younger daughters. The smell of breakfast begins to fill the room.

“Where’s Riley?” Rachel asks.

James looks up from his plate and sweeps his eyes around the kitchen. “Not in here,” he replies, and shrugs. “She’s probably just still asleep.”

The thought of his oldest daughter is enough to bring back the thoughts and events of yesterday evening. He remembers standing on the back porch, about to walk to his detached office, when suddenly, out of thin air, Riley appears. The slight swoosh noise that accompanies a teleport could be heard, as well as the small gust of wind. His eyes widened with shock and surprise, and the guilty and awkward manner of the girl was plenty enough to confirm that his daughter had just done the seemingly impossible-- she had teleported. But, to James, that wasn’t as unordinary as many would think.

Being a member of the government's top secret Supernatural Beings division was a stressful job that required tracking down people with "special" abilities that may cause a disruption in the everyday lives of others. James had completed a mission a few weeks ago, requiring him to go to Smalltown, Oklahoma to find and arrest Lawrence Reed. The man was found to be able to levitate objects, and that was classified as important enough for the person to be taken to the government and analyzed.

However, the discovery of a teleporter had set him and his boss into a flurry. It was an extremely rare talent, one that had never been witnessed before and was only slightly mentioned in a book from long ago. The details of this ability were very vague, due to a lack of information on it. But now, if he could get Riley in for examination… One of the Supernatural Being department’s greatest mysteries might be solved.

It’s now 11:00 am, and James asks Rachel to go see if Riley is awake yet. It’s very odd for her not to be up yet, she’s up by 7:30 most weekends. Rachel walks quietly to her room and opens the door carefully.

“Riley? Honey?”

She pokes her head in farther into the room, and expects to see her daughter in bed. Or at her desk. Or in her room.

But she isn’t in any of these places.

Rachel flies back down the hallway.

“Allan, Riley isn’t in her room. Did she leave the house while you were out here alone? Or maybe before that?”

“Not that I know of. I would’ve heard her. Why, is she not in her room?” He asks with a hint of worry in his voice.

“She isn’t anywhere in her room.”

“Let’s check the rest of the house. Riley!” James yells, and starts walking down the hall. “Riley!”

Rachel puts her head in her hands.

“Where could she have gone?”

The woman’s strained voice carries through the suddenly silent house.

“I… I don’t know.”

“Daddy, I checked in all the bedrooms again. She’s not there.” James’ youngest daughter reports.

“She wasn’t there three minutes ago when you last checked, either…” The annoyed middle sister says. But a look of worry soon washes over her face.

“It’s okay. We’ll find out where she is. Let me go do something in my office, okay?”

He quickly walks out the back door and into his office. He flips on a desk light and boots up his computer. The screen flashes on, and requests,

Please enter your password, Allan James.

He types in a long, complicated combination, and the computer allows him access. He immediately goes to his email and sends his boss an email.

General Rogers,

We have a sudden complication with Suspect #1224a3, Riley James. She has gone missing. Please reply as soon as it is convenient for possible methods of finding her. She has been identified as a suspect needing to be taken in for examination.

Hey again!

So, let me first quickly explain this chapter. This part of the story could not have been told by either Allegra or Riley, and it's an important piece in the story's development, so Audrey and I had to create a third POV, the narrator. The narrator sees everything that's going on, a typical trait of third-person POV.

Also, I have a bit of news. I don't know if any of you remember this, so I'll quote it from the Introduction of this book.

"But here's the thing. In our portfolios, we ran out of time to finish the story. It ended with "To be continued..." So, here's our chance to finish it! The first bunch of chapters will be from our portfolios, and then hopefully, we will have some time to write more and finish the story."

This chapter, Narrator- 1, is the last chapter of what's already written. The rest of the story is in our heads, yet to be typed into words. So it will probably be a while before another update for this story comes along. We're sorry.

Until our next update,
