This poem follows Sammy, a young boy who was living with an abusive mother who has magic powers. It is meant to capture snippets of his feelings and thoughts, and a bit of what really happened that night.

A winter night, so cold and dark

I fled the dungeon, she'd made her mark

On me, that is

Of course she would

I should've known...

I felt the fire strike my bone

Her face lit with the light that shone

From me, that is

Of course it did

She told me I wasn't strong

I didn't belong

But I knew she was wrong...

I would wake up to starlight

And begin my flight

Away, away

From this broken home

Before the magic turned me to stone

To think some:

No light

No life

I didn't want to know

What kind of monster I had become
