A poem from the perspective of multiple characters from my upcoming book.

I've been alone my whole life

Locked doors and constant strife

Of all of those who had loved me still...

Even as I told them

How the fire burns within my bones

How the darkness calls me home

How my touch can kill

And even then

They take me in

And then there comes the fighting

Screaming

Crying

Pain and suffering in my wake

I told you so

I told them so

And yet they never listen

Get out

They yell

You're a monster

They tell

But that is the lot of the demon

Forever cursed with this cruel spell

I've always been alone

Maybe true, maybe not

But even so

I'm telling you to let me go
