Struggling with the golden clasp on my bracelet I finally let the light emerald beads slide against the base of my palm.
"Finally." I huffed looking at myself in the mirror and rubbing my finger over the beads.
"Sadie Taylor's here!" My mother yelled from downstairs, I frantically turned and grabbed my backpack off the chair beside me and rushed downstairs.

"Is he bringing you home?" My mother asked as I halted in the doorway of the entrance.
"Probably...I've gotta go, I'll call you when I get out of school." I responded with a small smile. I closed the front door behind me and rushed over to the blue pickup truck.

"Finally, we're gonna be late." Taylor remarked as I jumped into the seat next to him closing the door.
"Sorry, it's been an off morning." I responded, trying to catch my breath leaning my head against the cold window. He looked over at me concerned but didn't respond.
It was quiet for the majority of the ride but he finally spoke up.
"You found your bracelet I see." He tried breaking the silence, I nodded in response. We'd been on the rocks recently and conversation felt awkward, but we couldn't let anyone at school know.

Finally pulling into the school parking lot I jumped from the seat and started walking towards the school.
"Hey, hey Sadie wait up!" Taylor yelled behind me, running to catch up.
"Taylor don't you have a football team to catch up with." I responded not turning to acknowledge him. He stopped in his tracks while I continued walking, I heard him mutter something but I couldn't understand him.

Sitting on the tabletop of a wooden picnic table, I set my backpack on the seat and pulled out my books for my first hour. The buzz of people filing into the common area outside the high school was getting louder and it became clear I wouldn't be able to focus on anything.
Standing up I prepared to leave when the sound of someone stumbling beside me happened. I turned quickly to see someone miss the table and hit the ground.
"Oh my god are you okay!" I remarked kneeling down to his level. There wasn't a response for a moment but I could feel everybody's eyes staring at us. He seemed to be in pain, with a sick expression on his face.

"Clark Kent?" I asked, he laid the side of his face back against the cold concrete.
"What's up with Kent?" Taylor's voice came from behind me. I turned standing up, Taylor placed his arm around my shoulder and looked down at him snickering. I'd noticed something odd about my bracelet. It seemed to glow a more neon color of green, but it could just be the sun reflecting.

Clark had finally gotten himself up to where he was sitting on the bench seat now. He looked like he could pass out at any second.
"We should give him some room." I said quietly, closing my bag and grabbing my books. Taylor didn't respond but I walked away silently, he didn't follow me but I wasn't going to fight with him even more.
Looking down I noticed the lightish emerald color had returned to my bracelet, even though I was still in the sun it had changed color.

I turned back to look at Taylor, Clark was standing perfectly healthy with a minor confused look on his face now, but nonetheless light years better then he had seconds ago. Taylor was confronting him about something but I didn't have time to go back before I heard the bell ring for class.

But I still couldn't wrap my head around the beads of my bracelet changing color, and Clark's change in demeanor. I've talked to him in the past and he's never acted like that, but maybe I'm just overthinking it.
Something about the situation rubbed me wrong, but again, it's just a normal day in Kansas. Nothing bad ever happened here since the meteor shower.

But I had bigger things to worry about, like a first hour geometry quiz.
