"You ready?" I ask April when she meets me at my locker. She nods and we walk to my car parked in the parking lot.
"Wow. I like your car."
"Thanks. It was a gift I got last year. Do you have a car?"
"Yes but I'm too scared to drive and my parents said they don't have time to walk me through everything."
"That's reasonable. But it's okay I can teach you. It's really not as scary as people make it seem. We can use my car as practice if you want."
"No I wanna use my car just in case something bad happens."
"Don't think like that. It just triggers your fear even more. But whatever you're comfortable with." She nods her head and turns to look out the window but not before I catch the glimpse of the blush that has made its way on her cheeks. I smile to myself a bit as we reach the street of my house. She starts naming things to herself that she needed to get done. I find it kinda cute that she does that so I let her continue on until I can recite it myself.
"Is that how you remember things?"
"Huh?"
"You were saying that out loud."
"Oh sorry. I didn't mean to."
"It's fine. I find it cute. Anyways here we are. She should be here if not we can just meet her at the bakery."
"It's fine. If she's not here I mean. You don't have to go through all the trouble for me. We can just help each other with homework until she gets back I guess."
"Nope. You wanna meet her then you're gonna meet her. I have no problems seeing you happy." She blushed once again and nodded her head. I get out and walk over to her side of the car and opening the door for her before she can open it herself. She mumbles a quiet 'thanks' before getting out the car. We walk up to the door and I open the door using my copy of the key. The smell of the bakery fills my nose and I look over at April who I'm guessing smells the same thing.
"It smells so good." She says with a dreamy smile.
"Yep. It's heaven coming home to this every afternoon."
"You are so lucky." She says with a giggle. I smile and she blushes before looking around my house. We walk further into the house before we stop due to the noise of shuffling in the kitchen.
"Ro Ro who are you talking to?"
"Come see mom. I made a real, perfect friend."
"I find that hard to believe."
"Mooommmm! She's literally in the living room with me."
"Ok ok I'm coming." She comes out the kitchen with a spoon with flour on it. She drops it and gasps as she sees April standing there. She stands there wide-eyed and jaw hanging, completely mute. I giggle at her and look at April.
"See you're special."
"Oh I believe you now." She says giggling. My mom snaps back in reality.
"Oh my god. There is an actual human being in the living room with you. And you aren't completely annoyed or disgusted with her. You accept her and like being around her. Yo-you ma-made a fri-fr-friend." She says while smiling.
"Yes mom I actually enjoy being around her. Yes I accept her. And yes she is now my friend. Most likely my best friend." I say playfully rolling eyes.
"It's about time."
"Oh and she's probably the biggest fan-girl over you that I know and she didn't believe that you were actually my mom."
