We finally reach my house and it's about 3am. We did not mean to be out that late but we lost track of time. Why does sneaking into your own house at night feel so illegal. When we finally think we are in the clear I open my bedroom door and my mom is sitting at my desk. And this is the last time April will see my alive.
"Hey mom! Don't you know how much I love you!" I say slowly just in case she'll let me off the hook.
"Aurora Marie Mills! Where have you been?!" She said my full name I'm totally a goner.
"Well you see mom April and I went stargazing and we lost track of time. Nothing more, nothing less."
"You drove to the outside of town to go stargazing?!"
"Yeah pretty much."
"I guess I can't be too mad since you had my favorite test taster ever with you but just be careful. April do your parents know you're here?"
"Yes I told them before we went stargazing. Is that okay?"
"Yes. Yes it's okay. Next time call before you do that again Ro Ro. I'm heading to bed now. Sleep tight." She walks out but not before she gives both of us forehead pecks. I pull April along to my closet and let her pick out which pajamas she wants to wear. When we both are finished I pull her to the bed which causes her to fall on top of me. She giggles and looks up at me.
"You- miss are- my savior." I say in between pecks.
"What do you mean?"
"If you weren't here I would've been a goner. She used my full name for crying out loud!" April just giggles and sticks her head in the crook of my neck. She sighs and looks up at me.
"Aura?"
"Ari?" I say with a smirk. She smiles before talking again.
"When I tell my parents how much their arguing affects me can you be there? I know it might be too much to ask but it would really help." She starts picking at her hands and I wind our fingers together so she'll stop.
"Of course I'll be there Ari. Are you sure your parents would want me there?"
"Yeah. They won't care because you helped me. You take care of me." I nod my head and she lays back down. She pecks my lips and I peck her forehead. Once she's comfortable she says goodnight and falls asleep almost immediately.
**The next day**
I wake up before my alarm. Five minutes of waking up early won't hurt. I look over at Ari who moves with my every movement. I slightly scoot away and she follows curling up to my side. I smile and watch as her light snores fill the room. My alarm goes off and she groans. I lean over and turn it off and look back at her has her ocean blue eyes flutter open. She finally opens them and smiles as she sees me.
"Morning beautiful." She blushes at the compliment.
"Morning Aura." She says adding a peck to my cheek. We both get up from bed and head to the bathroom to brush our teeth. She has her own toothbrush here considering our first sleepover. Our first kiss. My first time getting the silent treatment. Also our first cuddle session. A lot of firsts that weekend.
After she not so secretly slipped on one of my hoodies and a pair of my leggings we went downstairs to help ourselves to breakfast. My mom always makes it but is never there to serve it so she just leaves a note. I don't mind at all and from the looks of it neither does April.
After eating we head to school. People still aren't used to the fact that April and I are always seen together and dating for that matter. We walk to April's locker and just talk. Every time someone walks by we end up going silent. I guess it's just a habit of ours. The bell rings and I give April a peck on the nose, lips, and forehead before saying my goodbyes. Before I can walk away she pulls me back.
"Can you walk me to class?"
"Of course I can Ari." She smiles and I grab her hand. She giggles and buries her face into my arm. I laugh while making sure she avoids all the polls and people. We get some questioning looks but it's not like I really care and April can't see them because she's still laughing into my arm.
"What are you laughing about?" I ask when we reach her class.
"I'll tell you after class." I slowly nod my head and watch her laugh again before she walks in class.
After a long gruesome hour class is finally over and I can finally know what April was laughing about. Surprisingly that was on my mind the whole time. What for? Well the possibilities are endless to what she was laughing at. As I'm packing my bag my teacher stops me.
"Aurora?"
"Hm?" I say giving him my full attention.
"I've noticed that you always seem to walk in right before the bell. You used to be early everyday. Are you having trouble sleeping? Something at home keeping you up at night?"
"No nothing like that. Everything is fine." He slowly nods and walks over to his desk. I just shrug my shoulders and slip my backpack on. Just as I turn around I see April's face in the doorway. She waves and I laugh while walking over to her.
"Hey Aura!"
"Hey Ari. So now what were you laughing about?"
"Let's go before we get to class late."
"Okay we can go but you have to tell me."
"I change my mind. I'm not telling you."
"Well then Ari. You wanna be difficult? Fine I'll be difficult too." I plop down in the chair and smirk at her. She looks at me like a parent secretly tired of their child.
"You can't sit there forever."
"I can and I will."
"Oh my god Aura! Fine I'll tell you!"
"I'm waiting."
"You hate everyone except me! That's what I was laughing about."
"Truth?"
"When have I ever lied to you?" I pretend to think and she scoffs.
"Nah I'm just kidding. You never lied to me let's go."
"Finally." She says while sighing. I raise my eyebrow at her and she looks away. I laugh and wrap my arm around her waist. We walk to my locker and I get the things I need for my next class. April looks at me the whole time.
"Like what you see Ari?"
"Yes. Yes I do." She says blushing. I laugh and peck her forehead.
"Come on I gotta get you to class." She nods and latches on to my arm.
"You still coming over to my house today?"
"For that thing with your parents?"
"Yeah. I understand if something else came up."
"Ari I'm going to be there don't worry. I would never leave you alone when you need me most."
"I know it was stupid. Sorry."
"You got so good at not apologizing for being human. Don't start that again now." I peck her forehead then her lips as we stop in front of her class doors. She nods and smiles.
"After school meet me by my locker. We can go from there." She nods again and pecks my lips. When she parts she gives my arm a squeeze and goes into her classroom.
