Jocelyn huffed as she rubbed her temples, her elbows perched on the edge of her desk. It was nearly 6pm yet she'd felt like it was nearing midnight.

"Jocelyn, there's a new client coming Wednesday so Annie's going to set up the meeting and forward that to you." Lauren spoke as she peeked her head into the office.

"Okay, no problem. Thank you." She muttered before turning back towards her computer. After printing out their standard resources packet for the county, she prepared herself for another meeting.

The heels on her feet felt like knives as she made her way towards the lobby. "Good afternoon, Harper! How are you?"

"I'm okay. Taking everything one day at a time, you know." The woman spoke meekly.

"And you're doing the right thing, no matter how you may second guess this decision. It's never easy to leave but you've taken the initiative." Jocelyn spoke earnestly as she led the woman back to her office.
...

"Goodnight." Jocelyn nodded to the security guards as she finally made her way to the parking lot. It was almost 10pm and she was exhausted.

Once inside her car, she locked the door and slipped her feet from her heels.

"Hi, ma." She muttered as she answered her mother's call.

"Young lady, it's been almost three days and you've yet to tell me how your event went." The usual chastising tone of her mother made her smile.

"How about you come over for dinner tomorrow and I'll tell you."

"You know I have a banquet with the Prime Minister tomorrow, Jocelyn. Why don't you join me and your father so people know we actually love our only child?" Jocelyn couldn't help but laugh at the statement.

Although her mother and father gained media attention from her fathers status as the mayor, Jocelyn managed to keep herself separate from that attention. It was a welcomed trait that the news forgot she existed.

"You know I hate the attention." She called before checking her messages.

A silent curse left her as she realized she'd gotten so wrapped up in her work that she'd left Miles on read for 6 hours.

"Maybe having some cameras on you will help you find a man. I'm serious about this Jocelyn. Neither you or I are getting any younger." Her mother brought up her love life once more.

"I know, mom. I'm 30 going on 52." The sarcastic reply earned her a loud huff and a string of prayers for patience.

Opening her and Miles message thread, she began apologizing and explaining how work usually gets the better of her. She'd done good for the past two days maintain conversation but today proved to be too emotionally draining.

"Jocelyn? Are you listening to me?" Her mother's voice suddenly broke her attention from the paragraph she'd been typing.

"Sorry, ma. I'm driving- I'll call you when I get home." She lied.

"Be safe. I love you."

"I love you too." Jocelyn hung up before throwing her phone in the cup holder and rubbing her dry eyes. The buzzing of her phone made her look up.

'Don't let your mother stress you too much. True love will find you in due time. Miss and love you, pumpkin'

She smiled at her fathers text. He was always the more rational of the pair and Jocelyn envied how much the two balanced each other out. Replying with her own sentiment of love, she added on her invitation for dinner soon.
