Kristopher waited for Abby to come back from the bathroom. He didn’t want to seem impatient but waiting got the better of him. He headed downstairs and found Guido at the bar. “Hey Guido, that girl I came in with, have you seen her?”. Guido responded with haste in his voice, “Ms. Abby, yes, she paid for the coca, and Mr. Kristopher, she asked a question about you, mentioned your last name and then she left. Is everything alright Mr. Kristopher?”. “Yeah Guido, thanks!” Kristopher flung open the exit door and almost ran into the street. Taking a moment to look ahead, left then right, he saw her, she was standing to the right of the coffee shop. “Abby! I thought you had left” he felt relief but concern. She knows who he is. Maybe that’s why she was acting a little off? Regardless, he wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Abby just yet. She had captivated him from the moment he saw her standing in the water, looking out across the ocean with a gentle breeze blowing her jet-black hair ever so slightly off her neck.
Oh no, not again. Why did she take a moment to get her bearings? She could see Kristopher approaching her, so she opted for, “I’m very sorry, but I have to go” and she headed in the direction of her rented cottage.
“Can I walk you to where you have to go? You probably shouldn’t be out at this time walking by yourself. There aren’t many people around and you never know who you might run into around here.” Well, that made Kristopher feel a bit sheepish. He sounded a bit hypocritical and he knew Abby thought the same as she looked back at him with a look that said, ‘yeah, I ran into you, didn’t I?!’. Abby kept walking and ignored his comment. “Please let me walk with you. I promise you’ll be safe”. Abby kept walking and shrugged. Just like that, Kristopher was now along side her and he, well, he kind of seemed quite pleased with himself.“So, what are your plans for the rest of the day?” he asked sounding not too overly concerned with hearing the answer. Abby knew that for the next three days, she had no solid plans, she was just ‘winging it’ until the train she booked left for New York. Sounds odd to some people she guessed but spending three days on a train was something she was looking forward to. She had been to America a few times now but had never seen much of the countryside. And the sleeper cabin she booked; she was very much going to enjoy her upcoming journey!
“I really don’t think it’s a good idea to tell a complete stranger my plans, I have no idea who you are”. Kristopher grew a cheeky little sideways grin; Abby could see it from the corner of her eye as it was accompanied by a little sound that almost resembled a snigger. “I think you know more about me than you are letting on”. Realising this was probably the wrong approach he appologised before Abby could retaliate. Abby stopped immediately and looked Kristopher directly at that now nonexistent grin. “I’m sorry Abby. Guido told me you know my last name. I’m also hoping that isn’t the reason why you seem to be constantly running away from me”. Way to go girl! Now you feel guilty for acting like a twit, right? Is he now thinking you have googled him and decided you don’t like him? Sure, you don’t want to look like a crazed fan, so you took the total opposite approach and acted like he was the crazy one! Well done!
“Ok, so I was testing Guido with throwing in your last name to see if I was correct. And no, I keep trying to get away from you because why would you want anything to do with someone like me? And I’m sure the last thing you need is a fan seeming like they are taking advantage of you. That’s not who I am.”
Kristopher tried to process all that information and see Abby’s point of view. He shook his head. “I would never think you were trying to take advantage of anyone, let a lone me. Shark or no shark, from the moment I saw you I wanted to get to know you. I saw that shark and my heart dropped. Yes, I wish we could get to know each other as Kristopher and Abby but, I am who I am, and I hope you can look past that. My question seemed rather ‘off the cuff’ but I would truly like to know if you have any plans for the rest of the day because I’d like to spend it with you.”
