hey guys! as i stated before in my authors note, i thought it'd be cool to talk about some of the scenes i was supposed to include in this book but either felt it to be unnecessary or thought of a different idea that i preferred at the time. hope you guys enjoy!!

DELETED SCENE 1 - right after the tag game, when reader and arisu talked for a bit about arisu's reason for being there, reader offered to go back with him to help out chota. of course you all remember this scene as chishiya being an asshole and convincing reader to retract their offer. however! i originally planned a whole chapter where reader follows arisu back to the mall, bonds with his friends, and helps him with his injured leg. since it would've been quite late by the time they were done, reader decided to spend the night, and in the early morning them and arisu find a bike shop so reader can go back to the beach quicker. i decided to get rid of this scene for two reasons. one, chishiya not offering to help would later have a role in the story (the infamous making it up to him as a means of manipulation) and two, i doubted reader would be able to get away with not returning to the beach right after their game without repercussions. all in all, although it would've been nice to have reader meet karube and chota, i kinda like the way i decided to write it in the end.

DELETED SCENE 2 - i'm sure everyone remembers the heartbreaking scene where chishiya and reader have their big fight before the witch hunt, and end up parting ways. of course we all know he eventually went back for them during the fire, but instead of chishiya disappearing once more, i had planned for them to stay together! so, they weren't supposed to have such a big falling out. chishiya was supposed to take reader to a car abandoned by the beach and drive out of the area, where reader would've woken up in the backseat all patched up. they would've gone to find the dealers room together and gone through the whole face card arc as a team. although this would've been cool, i changed it because i realized chishiya is stubborn as hell, and i didn't think him and reader would be able to smooth things over so quickly. plus i'm pretty sure reader would've strangled him (affectionately) if they saw him so soon, and i kinda prefer the whole arc of reader, kuina and yasushi participating in games together.

DELETED SCENE 3 - i had fully planned for yasushi to die! it was to take place during the jack of hearts, where he would've been locked in the cell with the other two players. but after some thinking, i didn't feel it to be necessary. for one, yasushi dying would cause reader to be devastated, and i felt i'd already had many other scenes planned to give that effect. not only that, but i really wanted to do a parallel of chishiya "saving" someone reader cared about versus the time he abandoned arisu. it kinda showed his growth as a character and that he was willing to change for reader and himself.

DELETED SCENE 4 - when chishiya was gonna leave for his king of diamonds game, reader was supposed to beg him not to go. i'm talking falling to their knees, crying and holding onto him. i took this scene out because as reader stated before, they would be a hypocrite if they tried to stop him, since they fully intended to participate in the queen of hearts game. i also didn't want to stir up anymore drama since i figured they'd been through enough.

DELETED SCENE 5 - reader was supposed to get shot instead of chishiya! it wasn't really a thought out scene, more like a fleeting thought that i felt would've been an interesting turn of events. but it felt really cliche and reader had been injured so much already it felt really repetitive. so i kept it as it was in the manga.

DELETED SCENE 6 - reader was originally supposed to play the final venue by themselves. they would've walked off without arisu and usagi, gone right up to mira and played that game with no jokes. however, as i thought about it, it didn't feel very exciting, so i really wanted to keep it a multiplayer game. similarly, usagi was supposed to be there too, but i didn't want to make it too similar to the manga, so i took her out (sorry usagi).

DELETED BONUS SCENE 1 - i haven't posted it yet (still working on it) but pretty soon i'm going to be releasing a bonus chapter featuring chishiya's point of view. i had planned it to be his thoughts starting from the prologue (now named solicitude) and important events from the actual story that i felt would be cool in his point of view. but it felt too long, and it would've ended up like a whole other book were i to write it and i didn't feel like putting my energy into it. but one scene in particular that i saved notes for was right after reader and niragi's game together. reader doesn't come back to the beach until much later, and chishiya, who had waited for them, took notice of their absence when niragi came back. he asked the militant about it, and niragi began to tell chishiya about the "things" the two of you had done (changed to make it seem like you wanted it) chishiya of course knew he was lying, but it was also the first clue he received in knowing what had happened between reader and niragi, and was able to piece it together after watching your behavior for the course of several weeks.
