a confrontation before training camp.

nanako heard a lunch tray slam on the table she was sitting at. with her mouth half open and food held in between her chopsticks, she sent an irritated glare at the newcomer before shoving the piece of fish in her mouth.

after swallowing, the team manager frowned and said, "what do you want, kuroo-san?"

the team captain slouched in his seat with a lazy grin. "so, you and taro, huh?" he began, eyes locked onto nanako's face to see her reaction.

it didn't fail to amuse him: her face was a heated, red mess just after those simple words. "w- what do you mean?" nanako spluttered, avoiding eye contact with the scheming captain.

"it's obvious, your face goes all tomato like that when you talk to him," kuroo responded as his grin grew wider. "plus, you cheer for him the mosts at practice sessions. not even games, practice."

"so? what are you getting from all of that?" nanako scoffed. "and i cheer for everyone equally."

"don't lie, i saw you two outside of the bus after inter-high," kuroo retorted. "and you don't cheer for everyone equally, where's my love then?"

the team manager's cheeks turned a deeper shade of red as she remembered how she spoke to shotaro outside of the bus that day. "i- i was just complimenting him! yeah, about his spike! nothing else!"

"sure, you two were blushing for no reason?" kuroo questioned, unconvinced. "admit it, you two like each other."

"no, no, i don't like him at all- wait, each other?"

nanako shoved her tray and slammed her face on the table, which hid and cooled down her burning face. "you're joking..."

"it's not that hard to see," the team captain commented, waving his chopsticks around as he ate. "two teenagers who can't even speak to each other without blushing-"

"shut up!" nanako whined and squeezed her eyes shut, trying to calm down the rapid beating of her heart.

"would you look at that, i need to go to the chemistry lab!" kuroo announced before stuffing the remaining food in his mouth. "see you at practice, yama-nana!"

the team manager didn't bother to say a goodbye to the third-year. nanako groaned as she raised her head, the heat on her cheeks slowly dying out.

"stupid kuroo-san and stupid crushes," she grumbled, picking at the leftover food on her tray.

but was it just a stupid crush or did it have potential? nanako paused her hand's movements. did shotaro seriously blush on that day or was kuroo just bluffing? there was no way a second-year who knew her for only two months would like her back, right?

nanako frowned as she dropped the piece of cabbage that was previously held between her chopsticks. it was unrealistic. it was impossible. yeah, shotaro didn't feel the same way at all. at the most, he would only think of her as a little sister.

but what about her feelings? were they real? of course, shotaro was nice to everyone, but the smallest interaction with her could cause her heart to beat at an unbelievable speed. clammy hands, flustered cheeks, sparkling eyes, these were all symptoms of crushing on someone.
