watermelon and summertime gossip.

nanako gulped.

every single time she interacted with shotaro, she could feel a specific manager's stare burning into her back. unfortunately, suzumeda had caught her red-handed the night before and wouldn't stop wiggling her eyebrows at any small interaction between the two nekoma high students.

it was worse when fukurodani was playing against nekoma. suzumeda would smugly smile at the nekoma manager form the bench across, making strange facial expressions that caused nanako to grimace.

as the boys continued playing, nanako felt a tap on her shoulder. turning around, she faced suzumeda and shirofuku.

"oh god, if this is about shotaro-"

"no, all the managers are called to prepare the watermelon the shinzen high parents gifted us," suzumeda interrupted.

nanako felt her cheeks heat up in embarrassment. she quickly placed the notebook she was holding on the bench and followed the fukurodani managers, who were heading to the kitchen.

"it's nice how you thought i was gonna talk about #8, though," suzumeda chuckled.

"shut up!"

"#8? on nekoma?" shirofuku questioned. "what about him?"

"please no-!"

"oh, nothing...just that little nanako here has a crush on him," the dirty blonde manager replied with a smirk.

"what? no way!" shirofuku exclaimed. "why did you tell kaori and not me?"

"she wasn't supposed to find out," the nekoma manager huffed.

"but i did, so too bad!" suzumeda grinned cheekily, amused at nanako's annoyed expression. "you were so obvious, anyways."

nanako gulped, feeling her cheeks heat up even more. "really?"

"it's not normal to see a manager stare at a specific player for 75% of every single game," the fukurodani manager commented with a chuckle. "not even including individual practice."

"seriously?" shirofuku laughed, opening the door to the kitchen. "you stared at him during individual practice?"

nanako didn't respond. instead, she passed through the two managers, heading straight to the sink to wash her hands while burning in embarrassment.

"hi nanako!" yachi greeted, joining the nekoma manager at the sink.

nanako greeted the karasuno manager back before rinsing the soap on her hands off. "do you know how many slices of watermelon each person will get?"

"according to kiyoko-san, around two," yachi answered, drying her hands.

the girls went to the kitchen counter, which was crowded with watermelons around it. "that many?" nanako exclaimed.

"there's our two first-years!" miyanoshita said with a smile. "as you can see, we have a lot of cutting to do, so let's get to work!"

"seriously? you like osaki?"

"how many people are you gonna tell, suzumeda-san?" nanako groaned, stopping her knife through a watermelon.

as the team managers worked on the laborious task, they chatted about a variety of topics, including suzumeda's favorite: nanako and shotaro.
