a past meant to be forgotten.

kageyama tobio. the best and worst thing that happened to nanako in junior high.

it was finally time for them to meet again.

she was sort of glad that kageyama was hyperfixated on volleyball, because he didn't even notice her in the swarm of people. completely focused on the practice match that karasuno was  in, nanako didn't even get a single glance from his eyes.

it was better this way. as long as she ignored him and he ignored her, there would be no trouble for the next two weeks.

after all, that's what they did for the second half of their third year in junior high.

as much as nanako wanted to take her eyes off of the karasuno player, she couldn't. it was bewildering for her to see him actually cooperate with his teammates--a completely different kageyama than the one she knew at the end of junior high.

what shocked her even more was the orange-haired middle blocker: hinata shoyo. she recognized him from the junior high athletics meet as the one kid who could seriously jump.

now he was working with kageyama, his previous rival. a ghost of a smile formed on nanako's lips. although she cut off all relations with kageyama, she was glad to see that he had someone to work with who could match his sets with his jumping power.

it truly impressed her as she watched their quick set from afar. she knew kageyama had the ability to set perfectly, but for hinata to jump that high in such little time was incredible. all the stress caused by kitagawa daiichi teammates who couldn't match up to kageyama's standards, that was all solved by a middle blocker who they believed was a nobody back then.

the team dynamic in karasuno was so different from the one in kitagawa daiichi. nanako knew kageyama changed for the better and was now with a team he belonged with.

nanako turned her gaze to her own team, who was playing against ubugawa high. she had to admit, the ubugawa players had powerful serves full of force. she remembered miyanoshita mentioning how they had to practice 100 serves a day, which seemed like pure torture to the nekoma manager.

automatically, her eyes landed on shotaro. the boys were practically drenched in sweat, since they played practice match after practice match consecutively. warmth spread on her cheeks as she thought about how good the outside hitter looked, even with sweat dripping down his neck.

she scooted her feet back a little as she saw yaku dive near the benches, keeping the volleyball up in the air.

"yaku-san, nice bump!" inuoka shouted from the sidelines.

once nanako's eyes flickered to inuoka, she realized the rest of the teams were gathered around their court, observing the final match of the day.

although she wanted to focus on her team, she couldn't put off the feeling of someone watching her. she scanned the area for any stray eyes and locked gazes with kageyama.

his gunmetal blue eyes pierced into her brown ones, completely distracting her from her team's game. she couldn't figure out what he was saying with his stoic face, but his eyes seemed to tell her something.

after kageyama became uncooperative with both nanako and the kitagawa daiichi volleyball club, she had to analyze his eyes for any additional information about his feelings. kageyama wasn't a master at hiding his emotions, even if he seemed irritated all the time. he simply expressed his feelings through frustration because he didn't know how to control it.
