I follow Scott quietly into the house, not wanting to wake up Dad. He had been staying here since we left for the trip, keeping Mom company. A saucepan sat in the middle of the kitchen, catching the raindrops that leaked through the roof. Scott put his finger to his lips then points at the couch, where my dad slept soundly. I nod and I follow Scott until he kicks a toolbox that was placed in the middle of the walkway. I slap Scott in the arm as my father stirred.
"Scott? Myla?" He calls out.
Scott bent over, picking up the tools. "Hey Dad. What's with the tools?"
Dad stands and makes his way towards us. "I was just doing some repairs while you two were gone. What time is it?"
I look down at the small clock to my right that read 4am. I turn it away from his sight. "Midnight."
"We were supposed to have dinner. We had a deal. When your mom has a night shift, we have dinner." My dad looked quite annoyed from our actions, but Scott and I had other problems to deal with.
"Sorry, we totally forgot." Scott says. "When we got back from the camping trip, I had to go straight to the animal clinic to finish up work. Myla just came with."
He sighs. "Alright. Tomorrow night then. Dinner." We start to walk up the steps. "You get anything for dinner?"
"Yeah." I reply. "Mexican."
I walk behind Scott, who was following Stiles. Stiles was of course talking about Malia, which I wasn't fond with. We haven't really talked since Mexico, but we were okay.
"That just means you're together, right? You're dating?" Scott asks.
Stiles sighs. "I don't know, sometimes the way she looks at me, I think she knows I'm not telling her something." He makes eye contact with me, pointing out that he was talking about what happened between us and who her real father was.
Scott shrugs, not knowing what to say while we walk into history. I sit next to Stiles, Scott taking a seat behind me. Mr. Yukimura was yelling at Scott, for his phone kept going off. Then Stiles's phone went off, then mine. "Phones off Myla." Another alert sounded and he yells one more time.
"Dad, that was yours." Kira calls out.
Mr. Yukimura walks to his bag and pulls out his phone, reading the message. "Scott. Call Lydia."
Scott looks at me. "We'll be back. Go to the sheriff's station. Just in case." I nod and and all three of us leave the class.
As I arrive, I walk in, seeing young Derek Hale sitting on the bench. Sheriff Stilinski was gathered by two other deputies looking confused at the screen.
"Sheriff." I say and Noah looks up at me. I start walking to his office and he follows, closing the door behind him.
He walks over to his desk, leaning against it while I stand in front of him. I cross my arms, nervous for no reason. The last time I was here, I was giving a false statement about Allison's death.
Sheriff Stilinski sighs. "Is that-"
"A sixteen year old Derek Hale? Yes. Yes it is." I respond, knowing his question.
"Have you been..." he lowers his voice, "...have you been time traveling? Be honest."
I was taken completely off guard. "Wait, what?"
Suddenly Scott and Stiles barge in but Noah continues. "Because if time traveling is real, that's it. I'm done then. I'm out." He motions to Stiles. "You're going to drive me to Eichen House."
"We found him like that." I say, stopping him from freaking out.
But it's like it freaked him out more, because he stands. "Where? Swimming in the fountain of youth?"
"No." I say, attempting to stop him again. "We found him buried in a tomb of wolfsbane in a temple underneath a church in Mexico."
Noah looks at Stiles with a slightly angered face. "You told me you were going camping!"
Stiles glances at me then back to his father. "Well we were. In- in Mexico."
To stop a heated argument, Scott spoke up. "Derek has been aged backwards. He can't remember anything."
"We just need to talk to him." Stiles finishes.
Noah leans back on his desk. "Well, so far he's not talking to anyone." He sighs.
Scott turns to look at Derek through the glass. "He'll talk to me."
Noah walks out, lightly bringing Derek into his office then closes the door walking out. I stand next to Stiles, who was leaning on his father's desk. Scott was standing in front of Derek, leading the conversation.
Derek leans back in the couch. "Why would I want to go with you?"
"There was an accident." Scott explains. "You lost some memory but we can help you get it back."
"How much memory?" Derek asks.
Scott sighs. "A lot. But you can trust us." Scott leans down, showing Derek his Alpha eyes.
Derek didn't know what to say at first. "You're an Alpha."
I turn to Stiles, noticing him looking through his father's mail. I glance over, noticing something from Eichen House with big red letters saying: 'second notice'.
"Who are you?" Derek's voice brought me back into the conversation. "And who are they?"
Stiles looks at Derek. "Oh, we're the people keeping you out of jail."
"Let us help you." Scott pleads.
Derek sighs and shakes his head. "No."
"Dude," Stiles starts, "you almost tore two cops apart. You need our help. That means not being a wolf man. Got it?"
Derek glances at me oddly. "As long as it's not a full moon."
"You still have trouble with the full moon?" Scott questions.
"I said I'm fine." Derek snaps back.
Stiles stands. "All right, you coming with us or not?"
"You want me to trust you?" Derek wasn't in it fully. "Where's my family?"
Scott sighs. "They're gone."
I walk up to Scott and slap his arm. He steps to the side and I crouch to be at Derek's eye level. "There was a fire." Derek's eyes were concerned and sad. When looking into them, I didn't want to crush him, I don't even know what I would do if someone told me my family was dead. "The house, as you saw, was destroyed. They aren't here anymore. But they're fine Derek. Your family just had to move out of Beacon Hills." I pause, allowing him to register everything. "But we will take you to them. Right when we figure out how to get your memories back."
His eyes pool with tears while he nods. "Okay."
Scott, Stiles, and I stood behind the front desk while Derek got his belongings back and processed to leave. I look down and shake my head.
Scott nudges me. "You okay?"
I sigh. "I shouldn't have done that. I lied to his face."
"Hey, you're fine." Scott says. "You just saved him from having a lot of unnecessary pain. We'll figure this out in a day or two, he goes back to being old Derek, everyone's happy."
"Except Derek." Stiles blurts. "He's never happy."
"But-" I sigh. "It's another person we're lying to. I just want to tell the truth. Like my mom, and your dad."
"That's Derek Hale in there." Stiles motions to the sixteen year old boy. "He'll be fine."
"Alright," Scott pats my back. "You two take him to my house and don't let him out of your sight. If you have to use some of your abilities Myla, use them."
"Where are you going?" Stiles asks.
Scott looks at us. "I'm going to talk to the guy that I should've gone to before." With that Scott leaves, bringing Stiles and I into an awkward silence.
I exhale sharply, not wanting to stay. My stomach churns with nervousness, even though I've never felt nervous around Stiles, but for some reason I feel like I have something to prove. Looking down, I could feel his nerves, but he had nothing to be nervous about.
