The field lights turn on while I sit on the bench in my uniform. This was my first lacrosse game, and I was more excited than anything. I look down the bench seeing Garrett, whom we believe to have killed Demarco. Of course on my first game there's a killer on my team, it is just my luck.
My leg bounced rapidly while I held my stick in my hand. Liam was talking to Mason, his best friend, and Scott was talking to Stiles. I didn't have anyone, which is how I've felt for awhile. Finally Mason heads for the stands and Liam comes towards me.
"Nervous?" He asks, sitting next to me.
I smile. "Yeah. Something like that. Anger scale?"
Liam sighs. "High."
I touch his forearm, comforting him while I lower my voice. "If you feel any sense of losing control, you find me. Don't make me find you, or you're going back to the shower. You got this. You have to chill out."
He nods, standing up to put on his helmet. "You have fun, it's your first game too." With that he runs to the field.
"Little McCall!" My head shoots up towards Coach. "What the hell are you doing? Get in there!"
My eyes widen. It's time. But I can't move. Number 24 jogged to me and I looked up. A familiar smile greeted me. "Come on 3, you deserve this." I grab my helmet and stand running onto the field.
"Thanks Stiles." I smile and he returns it, giving me a fist bump.
The whistle blew, Davenford Prep had possession and before we even knew it, Brett scored a goal. After the goal, Scott, Stiles, and I meet up.
"This is going to end badly." Stiles says.
"Myla, watch Garrett. I'll watch Liam." Scott says and I nod, starting to run away from the group.
Brett had the ball again, and I could see Liam sprinting towards him until two opponents completely plow him up. Liam rips off his helmet, ready to destroy anything in sight and I quickly reacted by throwing off my helmet and running to him.
"Liam! Liam" I run over putting my hands on his chest. "This is not a fight you want. Calm the hell down." Scott comes over and takes over while I walk towards Brett. I grab the bars on his helmet and bring him to my level. "One night. Leave him alone for one night."
"You're pretty." Was all he had to say.
"Shut up." I let go and walk away, grabbing my helmet off the ground and putting it on.
Stiles was up, quickly grabbing the ball and throwing it to me. I catch it, freezing for a sec before my brain caught up and told me to run. I weaved and dodged the sweaty boys on the field, making my way towards the goal. I had a clear shot and took it, making the goal. I cheered for myself as my teammates all cheered and gave me high fives.
I look over, seeing Stiles smiling the most out of my whole team. For a second, everything stopped, the game, the sounds, my anger towards Stiles, all gone. He ran towards me and hugged me, my feet lifting off the ground slightly. "Good shot My."
"My? You haven't called me that since middle school." I laugh.
"It needs to be brought back." He smiles and runs away, leaving me alone, smiling.
After a few more plays, Liam was doing quite well. He had built up anger towards Brett, but it was mutual. Suddenly the two collided at full force, leaving both of them yelling in pain and the whole crowd gasping. I run over seeing Liam being pulled up so I go to Brett.
"You okay? Brett?" I ask while he was groaning in pain. "Brett!" Before I knew it, he was being pulled away by his teammates so I checked on Liam. "You good?"
"Scott put my arm back in place. I'm good. He said Garrett is aiming for me." Liam said glancing back.
"I have your back." I say.
Liam looks around. "You're normal. I'm supernatural. You shouldn't have to look out for me."
I laugh. "I was able to keep you pinned to a wall while you wolf out. I'm fine."
There was a delay in the game due to injuries, so we all huddled on our bench. Coach took Liam out of the game to be safe, and Brett was taken to the locker room. My stress was through the roof, only because there was someone running around with a knife in their stick.
"We're missing something, right?" Scott asked Liam and I.
I shrugged my shoulders when Stiles came over. "Guys. Lydia got another third of the list."
"Am I on it?" Liam asks.
"No." Stiles responds. I look at him, asking if I was too and he shakes his head. "But someone else is. Brett."
"He's-" I start. "He's in the locker room. Scott go. I'm right behind you." Scott ran towards the school and I was left with the other two boys. "Stay away from Garrett. Both of you. Liam, watch him." I run away, going towards the school.
As I get to the locker room, Scott had just made a freshman girl pass out on the floor. He looks at me. "Check him."
I nod and run to Brett who was in pain on the ground. "Hey Brett. Do you remember me?" Gasping for air he nods. "That's good, I'm Myla if you need a refresh on the name. I'm going to help you. Where did he stab you?"
Brett lifts up his shirt and I see the stab wound. As blood seeped out the wound, I put pressure on to stop it. Purple veins sprout in my hand as I take his pain and heal him at the same time. Brett's breathing slowed as he calmed down.
"What are you?" He asked sitting up.
"I'm nothing. You're the one that's supernatural, not me. I just put pressure on your wound so you could heal. You did it yourself." I lie, not wanting to spread word about me. "Now you got to get out of here. Go."
Just as he tried to get up, he yelped in pain as his wound opened again and his body started to shake. "What the hell?" I look back at Scott and his eyes widened.
"Wolfsbane. The blade had wolfsbane on it. Get him to the animal clinic. Now!"
As if on cue, Stiles reaches the doorway. "I'll call my dad."
