Surgery day. It's meant to remove the large tumor in your stomach, so you can get closer to remission. The chemo rounds before surgery were meant to let your tumor get smaller.
It's two hours before your surgery. You are sitting on my lap and playing on your tablet. You seem to be pretty calm. You are so brave. I wish I would show as much bravery as you do.
Mom isn't very calm. I'm really nervous too. It's such a horrible feeling to give you in strangers hands. I know the doctors will take care of you, but I'm still so scared.
Your bravery is out of this world. You know that the surgery you will have soon is complicated and dangerous. But you still walk to surgery, on your own. With a smile on your face. Leading your surgery team. I'm so proud of you.
We are in the room before the surgery room. Mom and I are saying goodbye to you. They already placed you a second PICC- line. You screamed while you were getting poked. You begged me to help you and I was holding you down. I hope you don't hate me baby girl. I'm so sorry that I'm allowing others to hurt you. You will unterstand it one day. It's because I want you to be your old self again. Happy, healthy and at home. None of these things are in the near future. There are years of treatment left. I'm so sorry you won't get to know a normal childhood.
You are back from surgery. You are laying in a bed way too big for you. You are not breathing on your own. I can see a huge wound on your stomach. It's horrible to see you this weak. You wouldn't be alive if you didn't get intubated. I hope it's not too painful. It's been scary 8 hours while you were in surgery. I hate it here so much. This place is hell. I haven't cried as much as I have here in my whole life. I'm so scared of the future. I just want to go home. But I'm so happy you are back with us again. We will keep fighting for you, Emi.
