bump......
Today's going to be my first day at Hawthorn Academy. To say I'm nervous would be an understatement. I've heard so many rumors about how this school is filled rich and smart students. And I, for one, am neither rich nor smart, so it sounds like I'll feel out place.
bump..........
Here I am sitting at the front of the school bus, surprisingly, the bus is really quiet. But it makes sense since it's only 6 in the morning, everyone is probably trying to catch a little bit more sleep before the day officially starts.
The bus comes to a halt in front of a apartment complex, and more people get on board.
It was just then that I realize that I'm the only one occupying the seat I'm on, and I began silently praying that no one sits on the empty space next to me. I let out a sigh of relief as it seems that my prayer worked because the bus started moving meaning that everyone is seated, and no one is seated next to me.
My little era of joy didn't last long though, because at the next stop, someone ended up sitting next to me. I turned my head to the side, looking out the window as the bus starts moving again, not even bothering to look at who had sat next to me.
BUMP!!!!!!
Suddenly I was pushed into the wall of the bus, and I heard groans erupt from everyone in the vehicle.
"What the fuck man?" Someone groaned from the back of the bus.
"Sorry guys, the road is extra bumpy today, I'll try to be more careful." The bus driver says in an attempt to calm everyone down.
Then the bus is filled with quiet murmurs before falling back into complete silence. I rest my head on the closed window, taking a deep breath and closing my eyes.
"Hey are you okay?"
My eyes jolt open, startled as I whip my head towards the direction that the soft voice came from. Instant regret fills me as my neck starts to hurt because of how fast I turned it.
"Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you," A short, chubby Asian girl said as she adjusted her thick rimmed glasses, looking up at me. She looked cute not gonna lie.
"It's okay... And um I'm okay thanks for asking." I replied with a small smile.
"I'm Jolene, Jolene Nguyen. I presume you're a new student? I've never seen you here before," She said.
"Yeah I'm new around here, my name's Harper by the way. Harper Davis." I responded, rubbing my neck as it was still aching.
"Oh wow, we rarely get new students at Hawthorn, I don't know why though." She says, placing her thumb and index finger on her chin giving her the I'm thinking look, "Anyways, are you nervous?"
Nervous? Of course I'm nervous..... My dumbass somehow got accepted into a school for smartasses. My nerves are on fire right now, almost feels like they're are dancing to Cardi B right now. Oh my god.
"Yeah, I'm pretty nervous," I said, turning my body to completely face her.
Wow she's really pretty. She had very fair skin, quite a round face that her bangs were covering some part of. Her auburn hair was curled and was long enough to reach her mid back. Thick glasses sat on her face as she stared up at me with her small brown eyes. She was wearing a light blue hoodie which had a picture of a majestic stallion with the words 'Hawthorn Academy' written below it. So I'm guessing this is the school hoodie, looks expensive.
"Well, all I gotta say is that, you really don't need to be nervous. People look at us like we're a bunch of lowlife nerds. But to be honest, if someone was to go to Hawthorn for a day, without knowing about any of the rumors and stereotypes, they'd probably think that that's where the district keeps the kids with high levels of marijuana in their bloodstreams." She said with a small laugh.
I laughed too. But I was a little confused, "But Hawthorn is at the highest rank for grade and performances than all other high schools in the district. How can y'all be fooling around?.... Don't y'all just study all day or something?" I asked genuinely confused.
"Yeah duh we do study, but not all day, nobody's got the time for that. Plus one of the reason's we're that high on the rankings for grades, is cuz of the study parties--- which are very effective--- and also because sometimes we cheat. So yeah the school has it's smarties, that study to pass, but it also has it's smart dummies, who cheat in a smart way to pass." She said snickering while lightly punching my shoulder.
Cheating?! Not studying all the god damned time?! Shiii sounds like I'll be right at home.
"So don't stress out too much, you'll love it at Hawthorn. We're like a big family of smart clowns. And in the mean time, while you're still adjusting, you can hang with my friends and I." She says in a reassuring tone.
"Okay. Thanks." A sigh of relief left my lips. Looks like I won't be lonely after all. "Sooooo what are your friends like?"
With a glint of mischief flashing in her eyes , she responded, "Oh you'll see."
bump...........
Now here I was, sitting at the front of the bus, with my new friend at my left, now anticipating arriving at the school. My once terrified feelings regarding the school has now turned to something different. Excitement. Because a school for clowns, is where I belong.
I leaned my head back against the bus window, drifting into my thoughts. Jolene and I didn't speak much after our previous conversation. So now the bus was filled with utter, calm silence.
