Chapter 13
💞 Harper Marie Davis 💞
As Cece was running, I looked over to the junior's team to see who I would be going up against.
Annnnddddd..........Well shit.
The guy was tall and lanky. His legs were probably longer than my entire lifespan so far. I might as well give up now because this guy could just take one step and he'd be at the cup.
I looked in front of me to see Cece making her way back to us, and my nerves were literally having a concert in my body.I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked over to see my teammates smiling at me. "You got this, don't let us down." Thara said.
"Thanks." I mumbled, feeling my nerves calm down a bit.
Cece returned and handed me the sponge. As I dipped the sponge in the bucket filled with water, I heard Cece say, "C'mon Harper, you've got this. Don't forget that we gotta win that free trip."
At the mention of the free excursion, I felt adrenaline burst through my body as I took off from the starting point. I kept running like I was being chased by the police after being caught eating an entire tray of lasagna that was on display at the mall because I thought they were free samples.
Oddly specific
Honestly, I imagined myself running like those characters in temple run.
I really shouldn't be trying to make myself laugh in the middle of a race
I took a peak at daddy long legs and saw that he was falling behind. I smirked to myself as I reached the cup and squeezed the water into it.
I ran back to my team, feeling like time was being slowed down.....
Author can you please put this scene in slow motion for dramatic effect? Thanks
As I was saying, the world felt like the world was lagging, I was running with all my might back to my team, with the semi-dry sponge in hand. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the overgrown grape vine trip and fall to the ground.
Did he just fall in slow motion?
"Huuuaaaaa huuuaaaa huuuuaaaaa" I laughed at the sight. Even my laugh has been slowed down, and I don't like it at all. I sound like the demon that haunts my dreams.
I got closer to my team, their loud cheers for me boosted my confidence to the max as I approached them.
Okay you can turn off the slow-mo effect now author
Time sped up immediately as I got to my team and handed the sponge to Marcus so he could go again since the timer wasn't up yet. I went over to where Cece and Thara were standing.
"That was great Harper. I've never seen you run that fast before." Cece made her way over to me and gave me a light slap on the shoulder.
"That's cuz you've never seen me run." I said with an eyebrow raised, taking a sip from the bottle of water I was given.
"Actually I have. That time that we got chased out of the mall by security guards." Cece said.
The look that Thara gave us after hearing Cece's statement was a mix between, worry and confusion. She opened her mouth to say something before I cut her off, "Don't even ask."
And she didn't, instead she turned to watch the race."Ooh! Time's almost up!" Thara said, pointing at the screen that displayed the timer.
Marcus had already reached us before the timer went off.
