Damon watched Missy's face as she thought about everything that he'd just said to her. He saw the realization hit her before she closed her mouth and pulled her bottom lip between her teeth. She looked away from him and looked down at her hands, even realizing her friends treated her like shit, she still had a small smile pulling on the corners of her mouth.
It was fucking ridiculous. She slowly shook her head. "Wow." Missy gave a small laugh. "I guess I never noticed it, but it's my fault really. I let them do it."
"Are you fucking serious?" Damon let the yell out in an exasperated huff. "They treat you like shit and you're blaming yourself?" He shook his head. "There is no 'I let them do it'. If they were real friends they would have never done it in the first place." His palms slammed down on the wheel. "No, it is kind of your fault. You shouldn't fucking trust people the way you do.
People fucking suck. Nobody really gives a shit about anyone else but themselves and that's something you need to remember. They don't fucking care about you. They care about the fact that you do shit for them, for them. Not you. You need to stop letting them use you and tell them to fuck off."
Damon turned and pointed a finger at her but she wasn't looking at him. She was looking out the window, looking up at the OverNight Inn sign and the large 'No Vacancy' lit up under it. Then she laughed and shook her head.
"Looks like I need to find another place to stay. Thank you for the ride, Damon. I'll see you around." She said as she started to unbuckle. He turned the key in the ignition and threw the truck into reverse as she reached for the handle, then slammed on the peddle so that she wouldn't be able to get out. The truck shot backwards, his book bag fell off of the back seat and Missy was thrown forward. He fought the urge to reach out and steady her and ignored the weird feeling of fear that she was going to get hurt. Wherever the fuck that came from.
"Buckle back up." He demanded. No fucking way was he letting her walk around the city at night. And no fucking way was he letting her run from this conversation either. "You're staying with me tonight and that's the end of the story." Damon didn't even look at her as he said it. There was no room for arguing. If he had to throw her little ass body over his shoulder and fireman carry her up to his room and tie her to the fucking bed for the night, then he'd find some fucking rope.
A few images flicked across his mind and he readjusted himself in his seat, his pants feeling a little tighter. What the fuck was wrong with him? He'd never had thoughts like that before. Never turned on by something like that before. God, he'd gone too long without getting laid.
He shook his head and drove back to the house. The ride was silent and he fought to not look at her the whole time. What was she thinking? Was she mad that he'd basically kidnapped her? Too fucking bad. He didn't give a shit. Even if he should, because he didn't. Damon didn't care about how others felt. He nodded to himself. No one but him mattered.
Then, why are you pushing so hard to help her?
Damon wasn't helping her. He was going to take all that happy and crush it. But why? Why was he so keen on making her as miserable as him? He didn't fucking know. He just knew that he had to. Something in him was pulling him toward her and that was the only explanation he could come up with.
If he woke her up to the shitty people around her, then she wouldn't let people close enough to hurt her later. Not that he was trying to protect her, because he wasn't. Damon didn't give a shit about her. It was just that her fucking smile pissed him off. She had nothing to smile about. She slept on a fucking couch, for crying out loud!
Pulling into his parking spot outside the house, he cut the engine and unbuckled. "Come on." Damon said as he opened his door. She hesitantly looked out the windshield at the house.
