[ Chapter Five ]

Cat's Out

River didn't know why she was doing this, but she was.

She was currently standing outside the door of Peter's apartment. Be nice.

How hard could that be?

Just be like him.

Just be like Steve.

Be like a Rogers.

She knocked on the door, smiling upon the door revealing May. "Hi, May. I'm in Peter's class. I-" "Come on in!" She told the teenager with a smile.

River walked into the apartment, "Sorry, I don't know you're-" "River Jack." There was the same lie.

Being a Shield agent, you learn to lie, it seems like it gets easier each time you lie.

"Well, River, Peter should be in his room, Ned's there too." River thanked May, then headed to Peter's room.

May actually walked with River because the teen had no clue where his room was.

They opened the door, May then left.

River was left with Ned who had dropped the lego death star on the floor, and Peter... Peter was in his suit, he was in his boxers, no shirt.

She didn't stare, but she was confused as to why the death star that took so long to build, was on the floor in pieces.

Peter quickly put pants and a shirt on.

"I-I-"

"Oh, she doesn't know?" Ned asked, referring to May.

"Nobody knows. I mean, Mr. Stark knows because he made my suit, but that's it." "And me." Peter looked at River. "What?"

"Do you work with the Avengers?" Ned asked both of them.

"Yeah, basically." Peter responded which made River sigh.

"You boys ever heard about S.H.I.E.L.D. agents?" Both widened their eyes in excitement. "I'll take that as a yes." "Well, Pete, I'll keep your secret, you keep mine as being Agent Melinda May's daughter." He nodded quickly.

Why exactly did she need to tell them?

No idea.

Now, she knew Peter would keep the secret.

Ned? She just hoped he would.

Ned then left, and Peter and River walked out of the room. May looked at River, smiling, "River, do you want to join us for Thai food?" She went to decline, but she was hungry, and May was offering, so she agreed.

River threw on her leather jacket and followed them to the Thai restaurant.

She sat beside Peter and once she got her food, she was happy.

"What's the matter? Thought you loved larb. It's too larby. Not larby enough. How many times do I have to say "larb" before you talk to me? You know I larb you." May said to Peter.

"I'm just stressed. The internship, and I'm tired. A lot of work." He responded.

"The Stark internship. I have to tell you, not a fan of that Tony Stark. Distracted all the time... he's got you in your head."

River decided to tune out the majority of the conversation.

She just wished she was doing a different mission for S.H.I.E.L.D. Why couldn't she just fight the bad guys, save people and repeat. Sure, near death experiences, but at least they were more interesting.

River spilled the beans.

Also May randomly inviting River into their home, offering River to eat Thai with them, you know, all normal things to do.

Okay, bye!
