[ Chapter Twenty-Four ]

River got in a few kills, which was great. Harry was struggling, but he punched one of them.

"What the hell?" "I don't know." River muttered.

Harry went to move forward to Thanos, and River thought of the possibilities, and pulled him back and behind her. Personally, River didn't want her best friend to die.

She narrowed her eyes, but then she came to realization.

"Ri, what are you-"

She knew what was gonna happen, and she hated it.

River saw Wanda, Wanda had to possibly hurt/kill Vision, I mean, kinda. But River, she thought that Wanda would blow at any minute. Yet, here was Thanos approaching her. "I understand, my child. Better than anyone."

The May went to move forward, to which Harry grabbed her forearm.

"You could never." Wanda snarled.

Thanos went to stroke her hair, as if it were to comfort Wanda, and right then and there, River was ready to kill him. Harry kept a hold of her.

And at that moment, River heard a noise and a word that hurt her, "NO!"

It took all of River's strength to not go over there and cut off Thanos' head. And just like that, Thanos ripped the mind stone from Vision's head.

It was gonna be okay, River kept trying to tell herself, but she knew the truth.

Thor slammed the axe in Thanos' chest, Harry turned her to face him. She gulped and mentally shook her head, she didn't have enough strength to physically do so.

"It'll be okay." She didn't say anything.

River knew that the axe just in the chest wasn't enough, Thanos could still process everything and kill people.

" I told you. You'd die for that!"

You could see River trying to hide the fear in her eyes, Harry just stood there.

"You should have... you..." Thanos paused, somehow becoming somewhat stronger, "You should have gone for the head!"

River had a feeling of what would happen, and she was ready to die if she had to.

Thanos brought his hand up, and snapped his fingers, and River waited.

"What'd you do?" Thor asked, "WHAT DID YOU DO?!" He asked again, sounding more angry.

"Where'd he go? Thor... where'd he go?" Steve asked, holding his side. "Steve?" Bucky questioned, soon falling to the ground and turning to dust, River turned back to face Harry, who fell against a tree.

River shook her head, repeatedly saying no.

"No." Harry looked at her sadly.

"No." And soon, just like Bucky, his body faded to dust.

And River let out a quiet sob, her best friend turned to dust.
