THE FORGOTTEN KINGDOM

ONE YEAR ON

ATHENA 

Ugh grumbling I shuffle through the paper on my desk trying not to slam my head against the desk in dismay, it has been a year since I was crowned queen, a whole year since Ramsey had been king and yet I was still cleaning up his mess. He had no head for matters of state, he didn't seem to care that his people were starving as he wasted his money on frivolous things that the kingdom didn't even need. I mean who needs a bed frame made out of pure gold? Seriously what was wrong with this kid? Growling I grit my teeth as I looked through yet another request as equally ridiculous as the last. Luckily Thea was a wealthy kingdom and despite how hard Ramsey had tried to make us broke he hadn't succeeded, after replying to queen Annis on letting her know that she was welcome for a visit a sit back sighing as I rubbed my hand across my face. Freya walked into my chambers a few minutes later and I glanced up as she placed a plate of food in front of me I blinked glancing out the window and raising an eyebrow at the late hour not having noticed the darkening sky. I turned back to Freya nodding my thanks she gave me a sympathetic look as she handed me a large stack of papers "You left these in the council chambers your majesty" she said sounding even more apologetic than she looked and I rolled my eyes as I took them "Thanks Freya" I said tiredly and she nodded inclining her head, "do you need me to help you get ready for bed your majesty" she said as she turned walking over to the four poster bed in my room so that she could turn down the sheets. I made a noncommittal noise not really paying any attention as I flicked through the new stack of papers on my desk, out of the corner of my eye I saw her shake her head but she didn't interrupt though I kind of wished she had. I lost track of her a few minutes later as I became absorbed into more annoying fares of state and I wondered (not for the first time) why I had agreed to this in the first place. I felt like banging my head against the desk so I did putting my arms on the desk and my head into my arms grumbling as I shook my head and that was how Morgana found me a few minutes later. 

Hearing a chuckle I look up through blurry eyes to see Morgana gazing at me lovingly a fond smile on her face as she laughed, I frowned muttering under my breath before slumping back onto the desk. Morgana snorted "Are you ok your majesty?" Morgana said laughter in her voice, I groaned not bothering to lift my head as she walked around the desk to stand behind me, she placed her hands on my shoulders gently and starting rubbing the tension out of them and I sighed as I felt several knots disappear under her touch. Morgana wrapped her arms around me and I leant against her smiling I wouldn't have been able to get through the past year without her, she was the one who kept me grounded. I would have given up a long time ago if she wasn't there to remind me to take a breath, she always knew how to get me to stop stressing. Morgana wasn't the only one either, Freya had been a godsend since I returned to Thea, Freya tended to the more personal aspects of my life such as making sure I actually ate something, and when she saw that it was getting too much she and Morgana would usually take me to Camelot or out hunting or even decided that we were having a day filled with training. Freya and I had become really close over the past year which was to be expected considering she spent pretty much every hour of the day with me despite my attempting otherwise. Morgana kissed me on the cheek and I blinked coming out of my reverie to find her smirking at me, I raised an eyebrow as she chuckled "What?" I said sounding defensive and she just grinned wider as she pulled me to my feet "I said you need to take a break why don't you come to Camelot tomorrow" she said as she pulled me towards the bed. I hummed pretending to think about it but from the look on Morganas face I could tell that I wasn't fooling anybody, I laughed nodding and she grinned brightly at me "Great I'll talk to Freya to get everything sorted" she said before her eyes ran down the length of my body biting her lip and I smirked raising an eyebrow as I gave her a knowing look.
