➿"What's with his weird obsession with the chili anyway? Like, why?" Selena voiced her inquiry as they passed through the Jacobs' chili stand, their enthusiastic family leader stealing her attention."Maybe it's more what it represents. It's something he gets rewarded for annually, so" Lexi answered, ignoring the casual tone of the question that didn't expect to be actually answered.
Selena let out a breathy laugh at the serious response and Lexi's analytical tone, both observing the family surreptitiously as they walked beside each other. "Damn, chili is so deep"
The path their feet followed had been walked on by them for a long part of the night, sharing thoughts and jokes about irrelevant topics as they passed through the same attractions over and then over again.
Selena's calm demeanor could be read from miles away. The dawdled movements and natural constant smile on her lips reflecting her lack of care or stress when around the brunette.
"The brother's kinda cute though, right?" She pointed out.
"Hmm, maybe. But he's also an adult" Lexi stated. Cute boys seemed legally unavailable for them, in more than one way.
"And, a Jacobs... It's crazy that a last name can make people's attractiveness drop as much as it does. I don't even wanna be near someone with that name"

Lexi's loud giggles muffled by her hand were the first thing Selena heard after the sounds that announced her embarrassing loss at a terrible attempt at the high striker.
She walked away in a hurry to leave the scene, but with her arm intertwined with the brunette, too distracted laughing at her, they barely were moving.
"Wow, you really are weak huh?" Lexi managed to regain her composure, but the teasing smirk stayed.
"It wasn't that funny"
"It barely moved, it was pathetic" A more discreet version of the laughter returned at the thought. Selena's eyebrows shot up in a surprised manner after the insulting of her efforts.
"Hey I'm sorry I was a formula fed baby, it clearly affected my development, no need to be rude about it Lex"
The corner of her eye caught movement where someone had just won the game she so miserably failed at, and soon the winner's coffee-colored eyes met her gaze.
She let out a disappointed sigh when she saw Nate walking towards both of them, smirk shamelessly noticeable. She grieved for the peaceful, enjoyable night she was having that was soon to be ruined.
His eyes lingered in her for a few moments before he smiled at both. "Lexi, Lena. Saw you guys eyeing the chili back there, I'd be happy to get you two cups, on me" He spoke coldly, more specifically to the girl that was actually meeting his eyes instead of the one looking away awkwardly, a serious glare replaced the fake smile.
"No one calls me that" Selena muttered, crossing her arms in her chest. Nate could practically smell the annoyance off her, and it pleased him to know he was enough in control of her to know how she would react to something as irrelevant as calling her a nickname.
"Yeah, I thought it could be a you and I thing. Also I could teach you how to work the hammer at the high striker. I'm pretty good at it"
"What's got you so generous all of a sudden?" Selena asked, taking a step forward. Nate stood in his same spot, looking down at her.
He shot her a small smile before he replied. "Just doing some charity work"
She let out a breathy laugh, and before she could answer anything, she was being pulled away from the scene. She heard a faint "See you around Lena" but when she turned her head to look behind her shoulder, he was already walking away.
