after spending the rest of their evening eating regular food and strolling around the city, the four originals finally decided to head back home.

kol was teasing rebekah over some guy she had started talking to on the street, the guy having been tall and good looking, which was exactly her type. while they bickered, finn had his arm around kari's shoulders as a comforting weight, leaving her grateful for her eldest brother.

finn and kol had always been the siblings she'd been more connected to when they were humans, and even after henrik had died and they'd been turned. they had been their mothers' students of magic, and though kol and finn had never gotten along all that well, the three had connected in the sense that they had been ripped of their birthright of magic.

kol and finn's distance and lengthened as vampires, but both were still close with their sister as time went on. when niklaus kept finn daggered after that incident with the five, the two were left to each other as their other three siblings pranced on about "always and forever".

both of them were kept out of that pact, despite their siblings preaching it whenever it was convenient for them. sure, rebekah looked up to her older sister, them being the only girls in their family, but that was only so much out of their relationship.

"are you going to be alright?" finn questions lowly, his words being quiet enough for the bickering two to not pick up on it.

kari sends him a small, strained smile, squeezing his hand in thanks for his concern. the older vampire lets out a sigh, but smiles at her once more as they continue on to their home.

reaching the gate in front of the mansion they'd bought and renovated when they moved to the city, kari checks the mailbox and frowns when she felt something somewhat small. removing the item, she finds an invitational letter, raising an eyebrow along with her siblings.

they head inside, the woman ready to open the letter, and freya comes from down the hall with a smile once knowing they were back.

"did you guys have fun?" she asks, and kol moves forward with a light pout.

"i wasn't allowed to have a decent meal-"

"-but we did enjoy our evening," rebekah cuts him off, the youngest two glaring at each other after she finished.

freya shakes her head in amusement, but she cocks her head to the side once seeing the letter in kari's hand.

"what's that for?"

the younger shrugs. "i don't know. i'll open it now, since you're here."

swiftly and carefully opening the letter, kari opens the little invitation with kol hovering over her shoulder to see what it said.

"please join us for a fourth of july/birthday party at avengers tower, this fourth of july. there will be fun, food, and drinks to go around, so remember to come by and enjoy it to the fullest. tony stark," she reads off, brows furrowing deeply.

"how does he even know who we are? was this given as an accident?" finn questions, concerned. since coming out of the coffin, he and kari had tried to keep as up to date with the significant happenings in the world, and the avengers had been one they'd been interested in thoroughly. they had skimmed over the whole sokovia accords business, though, considering it had been dealt with and was no longer relevant. all they knew of it, was that one of the newly inducted avengers had been accused of bombing the united nations in vienna, but as said previously, it had been dealt with and the avenger had his name cleared of the accusations.

"how the hell would we know? maybe he heard about some wealthy people suddenly buying up this place not that long ago, and decided to check us out? it's not like any of us have ever actually talked to the guy," kol said, frowning as he crossed his arms.
