"kari! i've been looking all over for you, my darling little sister! now, would you mind telling me who this fine, young man is, before i have to get everything messy?" the annoying voice of the original hybrid cuts through the atmosphere that had finally settled down, and all three of them snap their heads to look at the man who was grinning fauxly at bucky. the former soldier immediately tenses, arm lightly squeezing kari's waist as she scowls at the hybrid.

"niklaus, i suggest you get out of here before i throw you through another wall," she threatens easily, only for the older immortal to smile patronizingly.

"ah, sister, there's no need to resort to violence when we can just talk like civilized people. does he know you're a vampire? or is that something you just neglected to tell him."

the devious smirk on his lips did nothing for kari's ruined mood, and she pulled herself out of bucky's arms to come and stand in front of her brother, glaring straight at him. klaus shifted slightly, trying to seem taller than he already was as they stood almost chest to chest, his smirk dimming the slightest bit at the look in his sisters' eyes.

"leave me be, niklaus. i tire of your games, your threats, and your presence."

the biting words make his smirk falter, true, genuine pain filling his eyes the longer he looked at her. but, the expression was wiped off his face moments after the words left her lips, and he pulled back with a faux gesture of surrender. shifting his eyes away from the glaring woman, they turn to the brunet that had been holding her, and he steps closer to the man, raising an eyebrow when kari tried to intercept him.

"oh, i won't hurt him, little sister. i simply want to see what makes him so special. i mean, he is a pretty one. did you or kol pick him out?"

the taunts only increased kari's glower, and finn continued to watch his younger brother with an unimpressed glare. attention was beginning to befall them the more the tension expanded, other partygoers whispering about the tense atmosphere surrounding the unfamiliar guests and the former winter soldier.

in the blink of an eye, klaus had sped in front of bucky, eyes looking the man over with suspicion and a hint of anger, ignoring the indignant noise his sister let out behind him. to his credit, bucky didn't flinch, but his eyes did widen the slightest bit when the mikaelson hybrid appeared directly in his line of view. glancing in kari's direction, he tried to catch her eye, but was stopped when klaus snapped his fingers and drew his attention back to him.

"you're an avenger, yes?" at bucky's slow nod, a small, malicious smile forms on his lips, and he spares his older brother a mocking glance.

"our sister really does know how to pick them, doesn't she?"

"just be quiet, niklaus," finn huffs out, rolling his eyes, but the younger vampire noticed the worried glance he shot at the soldier, and klaus turned his eyes back to bucky, looking him over once again.

"you're the one that used to be a weapon for that dreaded science division, yes? 'the winter soldier,' i believe you were called. weren't you a cold blooded killer for a solid few decades?"

bucky didn't bother responding, simply narrowing his eyes at the immortal hybrid.

klaus smirked once again, finally pulling away from him and looking back over at his sister, who was watching with a surprising amount of apprehension openly showing on her face. it confused her brother, causing him to raise an eyebrow, and he opened his mouth to make a comment, only to be cut off.

"i believe that's enough fun for the evening, niklaus," elijah swiftly cuts in, smiling placatingly at the people that had been watching the ordeal while gripping onto his brother's arm. the hybrid immediately scowled, but smiles as well to not seem as menacing as he undoubtedly was.
