No one would stop talking about the other schools, up until they arrived. We had a history of magic last and nobody did any work. To everyone's relief, we even got to leave early to get ready to greet the other schools in the courtyard. Every house in every year joined together like a bundle of string as we headed down the overcrowded and noisy corridors. These corridors were normally cold but as everyone joined up they soon became sweaty. I stuck to Josie like glue in fear of being left behind. We got to the courtyard just in time to see the carriage that I knew to be the Beauxbaton students.
"I wonder if just the male students will come," Josie said.
"That would be a bit less stressful. I'd get to see Theo as well" I thought.
"I bet the girls will come to watch too," Florence shouted.
I couldn't tell if I was excited to see Theo or not. I was most anxious but he was the only good thing to come out of this tournament.
"I wonder if he'll compete" I daydreamed.
As the Beauxbatons carriage disappeared along with the Abraxan's, which were again something to feel good about, everyone moved again.
"Where are we going?!" I shouted to Josie and Florence.
"No clue just follow!" Josie chuckled.
We followed the students to the black lake. The water glistened in the low afternoon sun.
"What are we doing here?" I asked aloud.
Desperately, from all the pushing and shoving, I hoped not to get pushed in as I stood right on the edge.
"I wonder if the giant squid will give us a greeting" Florence chuckled.
Something started to emerge as she said that and we all took a huge step back from the lake. It wasn't the squid though, it was a ginormous ship pioneered by twenty young boys.
"Oh my, aren't they gorgeous!" I heard girls coo.
"So strong!"
"Better than the boys at Hogwarts," Some tittered.
Then, just as the whole ship had emerged from the black pit, another carriage, most unlike the Beauxbatons one, danced across the sky. Then another. And another. Three of them, royal red pulled by... nothing?
"Ooooh"
"Ahhhh"
Was all that could be heard.
"Wait can't you see what they are being pulled by?" Someone shouted.
"There thestrals!"
"Thestrals?!"
"I can't see anything!"
"Me either!"
"I can't see anything" I whispered to Josie but her face had gone pale.
"Josie? Are you alright?" Florence asked.
"I've seen them before" She gulped.
"I can't see anything," Florence said "What do they look like?"
"They are skeletal, black, winged horses."
"The complete opposite of Abraxans then," I thought.
"You can only see them if you have seen someone die," Kitty said beside us and we all jumped.
"Kitty! Where have you been?" Josie shouted.
"Who have you seen who has died Josie?" Kitty asked.
"My owl," She said "It was horrible. She got trampled by a carriage last year."
"Poor you. I'm so sorry" Florence said, squeezing her arm.
I rolled my eyes a little, then thought "I'd be sad if Persie died so I can't blame her."
All the students eventually made their way back inside and we all convened in the Great Hall.
