Chapter 5

I let out a sigh as I watched Noct talk to Iggy.

"I swear those two are made for each other." Iggy's mother, Rachel, said with a laugh.

"Iggy is one of the few who can handle Noctis." I said with a laugh.

"I have to say, I'm glad that Noctis has you. That woman wouldn't let him near Iggy." She said sadly.

"Yea, I had to sneak him out to bring him here."

"So I heard the King has asked you to go with him to a secret event." She said softly.

"Yes, a gala in Tenebrae." I said softly.

"As his date." She said with a smile.

"As his guard. I know you believe that something is going on with me and the king, but I can assure you there is nothing." I said softly.

"That's what they all say." She said as she took a sip of tea.

"Though... he is quite handsome." I said as I brought the cup to my lip.

"If I wasn't married, I would go for him." She said with a laugh.

"You would probably have a better chance then me."

"Please, anyone can see he is smitten with you." She said as she set her cup down.

"I'm just his son's teacher."

"I'd say your more like a mother to him." She said softly.

"I don't even know how to be a mother."

"No one ever does." She said softly.

I let out a sigh and finished my tea. My phone went off and I pulled it out the see that the king was calling me.

"I have to take this." I said as I went outside.

"Hello?" I asked as I answered it.

"Mar, I hate to intrude.... but I'm afraid there has been a change in plan.... we are leaving sooner than planned." He said calmly.

"Alright, I can be ready as soon as I drop Noctis off."

"I am having Cor pick you up. Nyx will take Noct home."

"When did we have to leave?"

"Now."

I let out a sigh and looked back inside the house.

"Alright, I have to pack-"

"Everything is packed and ready to go. I had Nyx get some things from your apartment and anything else will be provided for you."

"I'll tell Noctis." I said softly.

I hung up and went back inside the house.

"I have to leave, but Nyx Ulric will be arriving to take Noctis home." I said softly.

"Tall dark and handsome?" She asked with a smirk.

"Very same." I said as I grabbed my jacket.

"Have fun with the king." She said playfully.

I rolled my eyes and walked over to Noct.

"I have to go, but Nyx will pick you up." I said softly.

He nodded his head and went back to talking to Iggy.

"Keep him under control." I said with a smile.

"I always do." Iggy said softly.

I walked outside and saw Cor waiting for me inside his car.

"What, don't get my door opened?" I asked playfully.

"I could make you walk." He said with a chuckle.

I went to open the passenger side but he locked it.

"Back seat. You and Regis need to look like a couple." He said calmly.

"Ah you're wanting me to steal Clarus' man." I said as I climbed in.

He let out a laugh and shook his head.

I always had a good relationship with the Marshal. He reminded me of my older brother, a man who like him joined the army young.

"So what is the mission?" I asked as I leaned forward.

"Go to the gala as Regis date. Pretty simple, watch his back."

"Wait back up, his date?"

"Yea, fraid you'll be in a pretty dress." He said with a laugh.

"If it is pink, I'll shoot you and the king." I growled out.

"It's purple with a light blue trim at the bottom." He said calmly.

"Thank the six."

He let out a chuckle and pulled up to the castle.

"Also we have your things in the back. Now I'll be driving so try to not get to handsy with the king." Cor said calmly.

"Trust me I won't." I said as we waited for the king to arrive.

I watched as he walked down the stairs with Clarus beside him. I went to get out but Cor pushed me back down.

"A date doesn't open the door." He said calmly.

He climbed out of the car and got the door. I rolled my eyes and waited for the king to climb in.

"It will be fine. Just have Noctis watched over." The king said calmly.

"Don't let Libertus watch him, he will have him only eat junk food. And make sure that if Nyx is watching him, that he knows that Noct has studies at Iggy's on Monday's and-." I said quickly.

"I know. And don't worry. I'll be watching him myself. So no worrying." Clarus said calmly.

"He doesn't like vegetables." I said calmly.

"He will be fine." He said with a smile.

"And he-"

"He will be fine. Now both of you go. Cor make sure they don't do anything stupid." Clarus said calmly.

"Of course." Cor said with a chuckle.

"Now, Regis... make sure you both use protection and-"

"Go." The king said sternly.

Clarus let out a chuckle and turned and walked away. I rolled my eyes and watched as the king climbed in.

"Your majesty." I said softly.

"Please, call me Regis. I believe you have earned the right. I mean you are helping me raise my son." He said with a chuckle.

"Of course.... Regis." I said softly.

He sent me a smile and we both leaned back in our seats. I stared out the window and let out a sigh, I could already tell that this would be a long trip.
