The next morning, I woke up to Rex's snoring. I could see the light beaming in through the large window in the living room. I got up and went to take a shower. Once out, I put my hair up and went to work on breakfast and coffee. The coffee on the cruiser was bitter, I wanted Rex to experience something new. I was almost finished with everything when I heard Rex get up. He stood in the doorway looking at me. I looked up from plating the food. He had the softest smile on his face, his eyes so warm. I returned the smile. "What are you looking at?"
"I'm just happy to have you. I wish I could wake up like this every day." He stepped in and started sniffing. "And I wish I could wake up to whatever that is every day." I poured the coffee then brought everything to the table. He took a bite and closed his eyes, a smile spreading across his face. "This is delicious. Thank you."
"You don't have to thank me. I'm glad you like it." He reached out with the hand he wasn't eating with and grabbed mine. He ran his thumb across my knuckles. It was a perfect moment. We finished eating then I got up to do the dishes.
"Nuh uh, I got it." He took the dishes from me and got to work. I smiled and wrapped my arms around his waist, like what he had done to me the night before. However, my head only reached his shoulders. I stepped away to dry while he washed. I didn't even notice I started humming, I was just too content. "That's a pretty tune," Rex said, side glancing at me. I stopped, a blush forming across my cheeks. "Keep going." I continued humming and we finished up.
"So, what would you like to do today?"
"What is there to do?"
"Well, we could go get lunch later, go walk around town, uh.." I trailed off. I had no idea what there was to do. "Let me look it up." I went to get my tablet.
"Can you bring me mine too? Wanna make sure I didn't miss anything." I grabbed my tablet then scooped his up. When I went back to the living room, Rex was already laid on the couch. I tossed him his tablet then laid down with him. "Huh, that's odd. I have a message from Bly."
"Wait!" I called, rolling over and stopping him from clicking on anything.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't know. Aayla told me that Bly would send you something and she sent me something. She said watch them alone. Like separate. I think we should listen." He raised an eyebrow at me.
"Alright, whatever you say. Though, when am I ever going to be alone?" That's true. On the cruiser he either stayed with me or the boys.
"You could look at it tonight in the bedroom and I can look at it out here?"
"Alright, fine. This is gonna bother me all day though," he joked. He went back to checking his reports and making sure they were all delivered while I looked up things to do. There were movies, amusement parks, parks, but all of it didn't sound like something we would enjoy. I was scrolling through when I found something. I chuckled. "What'd you find?" He asked, trying to look over my shoulder.
"How about the shooting range? It's nearby. See who's really the best shot." He laughed at that.
"You're on." We got up and got dressed. I attempted to do my hair, but I never spent time trying anything different. I tied in a few braids then pulled half of it up. Not bad. I walked out and Rex smiled. It was odd seeing the two of us in casual clothes, going on a date. I grabbed my bag and we headed out. We walked into the shooting range. There were already a few people there, but they were spaced out. The place was dim, with the target area lit with white lights. The targets would sporadically pop up or move. There was a computer where you could input the level of difficulty. We rented some blasters then moved to the shooting area. Some guy tried to come up to teach us how to shoot, but the look Rex gave him made him back off. We went through the computer to see what type of modes it had. We could either compete side by side or take turns. We both smirked at each other. We were too impatient for turns. I got into the booth next to him, we both turned it to its highest setting, then started.
Our instincts took over. I didn't use blasters as much as Rex did, but my reflexes were fast. And my aim wasn't half bad. Targets zoomed across while others popped out of the floor and ceilings. Others would turn out of the background. It seemed like there was always movement. After a few minutes, all the targets stopped moving. I lowered my blaster and went to check my score. I turned to ask Rex, and that's when I noticed the few people there had been watching us. Rex came into my booth, grinning. "I bet I won," he joked.
"No way!" Turns out, he did. I gave him a congratulatory kiss. "Best two out of three?" He grinned and went back to his booth. We played a few more rounds, which I swear he let me win one so that we could go again. In the end, he won. "Alright, I guess I'll take you to lunch since you won," I joked, hands on my hips. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder, and we went to return the blasters.
"That was some good shooting in there. You guys bounty hunters or something?" The store clerk asked as he took the blasters.
"Far from it," I answered. We turned and left. We ended up at a restaurant not far. We joked about how I needed to improve my aiming. Then we talked about the city. We ate our food then left. After that, we just wondered. If we saw a store we were interested in, we went in. Most were clothing stores, but they did have some tech shops and weapon depots. The sun started to set, and we made our way back to the hotel. Once we got back, Rex helped me make dinner. We ate and enjoyed the sunset. It was so perfect. The day was so calm, relaxing. Not having to worry about who's shooting at us or when's the next battle. We went to relax on the couch, allowing the tv to run in the background.
"Today was the best day of my life," Rex sighed as I sat on the couch next to him, putting my head on his shoulder. "Well, aside from you confessing to me," he joked. I pushed his shoulder and he pushed me onto the couch, laying on top of me. We both started laughing then he kissed me. He got up and laid down, pulling me onto him.
"Today was the best day for me too." I sighed, just taking it all in. I closed my eyes and felt my body melt. I must have dozed off, but I awoke sometime later. We were still on the couch and the tv was on. Rex was laying on his back and I laid on half of him. His arm was wrapped around me, preventing me from rolling off. But his hand wasn't on my shoulder, it was on his tablet. I opened my eyes, and I could see the light from his tablet. I shifted to see what he was doing.
"Hey, you're up," Rex said, shutting off his tablet and putting it next to him.
"What are you up to?" I asked blearily.
"Oh, um, nothing, don't worry about it." I could sense embarrassment.
"Mhm," I said, pushing myself up. I rubbed my eyes and looked around. It was late. "Let's go to bed," I groaned. I was stiff from laying still for so long.
"Yeah, I'll be there in a moment. Go get comfortable." I raised an eyebrow at him. "Just something quick I gotta finish. I promise I'll be there soon." I got up and trudged to the bed. I laid down and waited for him. He was taking forever. My bag was next to the bed from after dinner. I reached in and pulled out my tablet to check the time. Aayla's message was still left unread. Well, if Rex is going to do whatever, I might as well see what she wanted. I opened the first link. It was a description of a woman's body. Odd, I said. I scrolled down and found that Aayla had made notes. It was focused on the reproduction organs. In the Jedi Temple, we had to learn this type of stuff. Why we bled once a month, stuff like that. But this was something way different. I kept reading, clicking through the links. Then it all clicked. This is what Aayla was talking about. Being sneaky, repercussions, how Rex and I needed to know this. The last link was how to be safe. I was finishing up when Rex came in. Just seeing him after reading all this turned me bright red. I turned off my tablet and he laid in bed. I didn't know what to say. Surely Bly had sent him something similar. "You read what Aayla sent?" Rex asked. I nodded. "They don't teach you that on Kamino," he joked. I laughed.
"Yeah, they don't teach it in the Jedi Temple either." He rolled over and pulled me into his chest.
"Let's get some sleep Cyar'ika." I closed my eyes and soon drifted off. I didn't want this to end, but in this war, there was no time to relax.
***Author's note: Thank you all for reading! Sorry with the chaotic uploads, school and work having been bogging me down. I really appreciate the support! Especially after the newest Bad Batch trailer. I am so excited to see more of Rex!***
