There wasn't much rest for us afterwards. Mission after mission, battle after battle, the 501st was always on the move. I hadn't seen Rex as often as when I first joined. We were called on different missions, and when we were on the cruiser at the same time, it was to rest or go to meetings. It wasn't until the mission on Christophsis that we were able to be side by side again.
"Long time, no see," I said as we walked aboard the shuttle together.
"Good to have you. You've been alright?"
"Yeah, tired mostly. You?"
"Tired as well. Let's see how this battle goes." I could sense his weariness. But, we had a mission to do. We stood shoulder to shoulder and headed down to the planet below, chatting about the missions we had been on. We set up a trap for the droids. As they neared, they broke their formation and separated. Anakin and I looked over into the tower Obi-Wan and his men were in. There was a fight going on. Apparently the droids had known our plan. Anakin called a ship in to evacuate.
"South tower? We're in the North." Rex stated.
"Not for long," Anakin said, pulling out his lightsaber. He cut then broke the window in front of us.
"Rex, fire your cables." The boys shot their cables to the South Tower then zip-lined down. Rex tossed me one of his pistols to use when he saw I didn't have anything to use. We got across then joined the fray. We gathered Obi-Wan and his men and we all crammed into the elevator. We emerged onto the roof and clankers joined in behind us. We all went to work, destroying as many as we could. Hawk showed up in his gunship and we jumped aboard. A Clone ran and took the head off a tactical droid, hoping it would tell us how they knew our plans.
We got back to base; Anakin, Obi-Wan, and I walked into Cody and Rex leaned over the center table. Apparently they had intel, but from where?
"How could we have left ourselves so vulnerable to a security breach?" Anakin asked.
"I don't think we did." Obi-Wan said.
"You think someone infiltrated our defenses?" Anakin asked.
"Possibly. It would have to be someone who was resourceful enough to get access to our plans."
"But that still wouldn't explain how they got our intel."
"No, you're right." Obi-Wan replied, standing next to Anakin and looking down at the tactical droid head that laid there fried. "They wouldn't act alone. They'd have someone working for them."
"A spy, sir?" Cody hissed. "But who would want to betray our troops to the Sepies?" I could sense his anger. I looked at Rex, who had a scowl on his face. I could sense his anger as well.
"That's a good question Commander. Perhaps it's time we made a visit behind enemy lines. I think we'll find our answers there." Obi-Wan said.
"We'll get right on it," Cody said straightening up.
"No, Captain. I need you two here to find the security breach."
"You can count on us sir," Cody replied.
"One more thing, this mission is extremely confidential. The spy could be anyone. Let no one know of our mission."
Rex took a step forward. "Understood sir."
I looked at Anakin and Obi-Wan. "If it's all right, I would like to stay here to help." Anakin and Obi-Wan nodded, then left. After they left, we heard a beeping noise. Someone had left their comm-link on.
