I did not want to get out of bed. I awoke snuggled into Rex's back; my head coming between his shoulder blades. I could feel his shoulders rise and fall with every breath he took. But the annoying noise of my communicator had woken me up. I could feel Rex stirring too as I grabbed the beeping comm. "Good morning," I yawned into it.
"Alright sleepyheads wake up. We got work to do. Meet me on the bridge." The comm turned off. A brief message from Ani to wake up to. I got up and yawned. I turned back to Rex as I stretched.
"Looks like the stuff Kix gave you worked well." I forgot all about that. I didn't feel sore at all. I would be keeping that. Rex got up and stretched too, then started putting on his armor. I went and got changed in the bathroom. I came out as he finished up. We walked out together. I didn't even think about it till we were halfway down the hallway. If someone had seen us come out together, that would start rumors. I'd have to talk to Rex about that. The doors opened to the command center, where Anakin was leaned over a holo-map of a planet. He looked up as we walked in, a smirk on his face. I shot daggers at him. He shrugged.
"Looks like we're going to Mandalore," Anakin motioned to the holo-map in front of us. "As always Obi-Wan needs our help here and being the kind person I am, I'm always there to help." He said that and looked at me. I rolled my eyes. This was gonna be worse than I thought.
"Is this a fight we're getting into?" Rex asked, leaning forward. I could sense he was nervous and a little uncomfortable with Anakin knowing about us, but that wouldn't stop him from doing his work.
"No, the Mandalorians are pacifist. We are only here to protect. The person we're protecting is the Duchess Satine Kryze," the holo-map changed to her photo. "Looks like a group called Death Watch wants her gone."
"I thought the Mandalorians were warriors? Fighters, not pacifist," I asked crossing my arms.
"They were, but now they want a more peaceful life. Those who were for fighting were sent to their moon, Concordia. Many thought they were dead but looks like they're alive. They want Mandalore to go back to its former glory."
"You said they were pacifist; won't they be against us being there?" I asked, looking at Anakin.
"Oh yeah, they aren't too happy we're coming. Obi-Wan already let me know about her resistance to us being there."
"Even though we're there to protect her? Sounds ungrateful if you ask me," Rex said.
"Everyone has different views Rex." Anakin said. "We're just there to help escort her to Coruscant. There, she wants to plead her case for the Republic to not help."
"When will we be there?"
"A few days. Take this time to relax, but not too much," Anakin winked at me. I was so close to throwing my shoe at him. I could sense Rex's embarrassment. "Actually, why don't you and I go for a walk? Check on the gunships?" Anakin nodded his head at me to follow. I turned to Rex as we left and smiled.
"So," Anakin said once we were in the ship bay, the noise here would drown out whatever we said, "wanna tell me what's going on between you and my captain?"
I sighed. "I can tell you already know, don't toy with me." He chuckled.
"How long has this been a thing?"
"Not long. Official for only a few days."
"When were you gonna tell me something was going on?" I could hear the hurt in his voice. He had told me about Padme, so it was fair I should tell him about Rex.
