Third-person pov || Y/n
She's finally home. Drenched but there. Time to see the one she cared about most, but that one person didn't even remember her. How?
Early-onset Alzheimer's.
Her mother was only in her early forty's but had been dealing with this condition since she was thirty years old. A burden was put on Y/n at a young age, she was only twelve years old when her mother was diagnosed. Ever since that day her mom's memory deteriorated day by day, making it harder to take care of her all alone. They were supposed to be best friends, mother and daughter, but all of it went to waste. She was the only parent she had left.
Her mother never really talked about her father because of how hurt she was by him. All Y/n was that her father's name was Wilbur and he left for reasons she didn't know when she was only five years old.
It had been a struggle for Y/n, even though she never admitted it. No matter how hard she tried, there was always some hatred for this condition, the condition that took away her mother, a hatred that slowly burned inside her and was not directed to her mother, but felt like it was. The hatred also formed because she wished her father never left their family. This hatred got the best of her, which meant she would lash out at others sometimes, including her own mother who wasn't at fault because of this buildup of pain, causing her to regret many words she said.
At the beginning, the memory loss was small, and it was little things she forgot. She might've forgotten to get a piece of armor, to put away the vegetables from the garden, to blow out the torches, but it developed to more serious things gradually as time went on.
She would never forget the day her mother forgot who her own daughter was.
It was on her 16th birthday, four years after the diagnosis.
They were making her birthday cake, her favorite desert in the world, the one her mother had made since she was a child. A white layer cake with vanilla icing and berries. As they were mixing the batter, her mother dropped the bowl onto the floor out of nowhere as they were discussing which way they should cut the berries to lay them perfectly on the cake and looked at Y/n like she was a stranger in her own home, an intruder, someone she didn't recognize, and started panicking, frantically backing away from her daughter.
"Wh-who are you?! Get OUT of my house now or else! C-Cara?! Someone please help!" Her screams filled the house and shook Y/n to her core.
"Mom, no no no, listen to me."
"No, I'm not your mom, what are you talking about?!"
"It's me, Y/n, your daughter! Come on, I'm right here. Look at me. I'm your daughter, today is my birthday and we're baking a cake! We were just talking about berries, don't you remember?" She desperately held on to her mother's arms, trying to see if she would remember who her daughter was. But instead, her mother grabbed the knife on the kitchen counter and used it to defend herself, unknowingly cutting her daughter right on her face, leaving a small scar on her eyebrow.
Puffy was thankfully in the house and had come downstairs to grab the knife out of her mothers' hands to regain control of the hectic situation.
Y/n kneeled on the floor, blood and tears dripping down her face as she tries to process what just happened.
Did she just lose her mother in a matter of seconds?!
"Niki, Niki, look at me. Breathe. It's okay, she's not an intruder, she's our guest, okay? "Puffy reassured her as she sat Niki down in a chair for her to recollect herself.
"Cara, finally, you're here, I thought there was someone-"
"Niki, we know her, she's our friend, everything is okay."
"Oh. I'm sorry I didn't mean to do that. You're always welcome here, please forgive me. I didn't recognize you for a second there."
As Puffy led her to her bedroom to rest Y/n said "Yes, I forgive you, thank you..." but deep inside she still thought it was her actual mother who did that, contradicting the truth she knew. But she couldn't help it.
How could her own mother hurt her?
Cara, or Puffy as everyone calls her, took Y/n under her wings when she saw that she was struggling to take care of her mother. Puffy would be that motherly figure to her, more of a sister that she never had, teaching her how to hunt properly, helping her make armor, teaching her pvp, and giving her advice. Bad also took her in, and he was her brotherly figure, always telling her to never curse, baking muffins and bread with her, and learning how to prepare the meats she hunted and vegetables she harvested. Getting a "Language!" from Bad was shameful to Y/n, so she swore she would never curse, at least not in front of him. It was an inside joke that they used all the time.
Both Bad and Puffy helped Y/n take care of Niki, and she could never repay them for their kindness. They were her family and she would do anything for them.
She finally opens the door to a full house.
More people were inside. She went in to find everyone at the dinner table. Puffy, Bad, her mother, and even Skeppy. The smell of nostalgia filled the dining room, bringing water to her mouth.
"Y/n! Finally, we've been waiting for you!" Puffy said as she gave Y/n a warm smile.
Y/n went around and hugged everyone, giving a gentle kiss on her mother's forehead. Niki stared out into nothing, looking lost and distant as she has been for so long...
Disregarding the emotions that flooded her mind, Y/n brushed it off to continue conversation.
"What's all this for? Is there some special occasion?"
Bad answered her genuinely, "No no, we just haven't sat down together as a family in so long. Puffy and I have been wanting to have a nice family dinner for a while now to reconnect with each other and catch up."
"Oh haha, okay!" Y/n quickly sat down and started putting food on her plate. Bad's famous mashed potatoes, delicious.
"It's been forever Skeppy, what have you been doing recently?"
"Oh, you know, me and Bad just built a MANSION, but no big deal, you know?"
"You muffinhead, such a bragger. But yes, we did build a mansion, and I wanted to invite you guys over to visit."
"We would love to wouldn't we Niki?"
"Ah yes, um, yes we would. I would love that."
Everyone smiled at Niki finally saying something. It warmed Y/n's heart since she hadn't spoken in so long.
The rest of the night was full of laughter, jokes, catching up, and Bad's blueberry muffins.

sooo, what do you think about y/n's mom being Niki? and Wilbur as her father? Puffy and Bad as your "guardians"?
I wanted to build her character and give more background to her story.
I'm adding so many more members of the dsmp as you can see from this chapter :))
I also wanted there to be a little happy ending for once :)
