I remember distinctly the sound of rain hitting the car windows as my father was driving and my mother...was coughing violently.
As a 1 year old of course I didn't know what was going on but knowing the fact that it was the last time I'd see my parents the memory was stuck in my head.
The car stopped, it stopped outside the place I was supposed to stay for 5 years of my life before I escaped. My personal hell, the orphanage.
As I mentioned it was the last time I saw my parents. The memory thinking of it now breaks my heart knowing how I hated them for years for abandoning me...when I didn't know the full truth until Ember found it for me.
My mother stepped out the car carrying me as I felt not only the rain pour on my face but also her tears. I could see she was in pain and not well. This wasn't for their sake...but mine.
She hugged me crying as I just looked at her. What was I supposed to do? Understand at the age of 1? I was just a baby so of course I didn't say goodbye or cry back, I wasn't hungry or needed a diaper changed then.
I hear her knocking on the old wooden door before gently placing me down on the doorstep as I was wrapped in a warm blanket with a dummy in my mouth. I didn't know about the letter she also placed for me to read when I was older until it was found by my friend. She then finally turned around and ran back into the car with my father as they drove off...and I never saw them again.
