I sat on the side of the boat. I had a black hooded cloak covering my face and the only other piece of clothing that showed was my shoes and socks. The shoes were olive greenish-brown and the socks were black. I heard a loud shout from the edge of the boat. I looked to my side to see a spiky-haired boy around my age waving at the island we just left from.
"tch"
I got up and moved from my spot. Since I was looking down I bumped into someone.
"Sorry..."
My voice was quiet almost a whisper.
"Oh sorry, I didn't see you"
I looked up to see a boy with blonde hair, grey eyes, and a blue tabard.
"No...I wasn't looking where I was going"
And I left.
"What an odd child"
As I was going to enter inside the boat the boy from before walked up to me. Or more like ran.
"HEY!"
I looked at him in surprise.
"A-are you talking to me?"
"Uh-huh, you seem about my age! How old are you?"
"I'm...12"
"Same here! My name's Gon! What about you?"
I stood there in silence.
"Ember...."
I said so quietly no one would hear. Well, no normal person.
"Nice to meet you Ember!"
I looked at him shocked.
What great hearing
"So um...why are you here...?" -Ember
"I want to be a Hunter just like my dad! Once I do, I'm going to look for him"
"What's his name?"
"Ging Frecess"
"Never heard of him...sorry"
"Nah, it's fine"
His expression then changed as he looked up to the sky at the loud seagulls.
"Something's wrong"
He climbed up to the crow nest and smelled the air. I looked at where we're heading and I could see dark clouds.
A storm's coming
"THERE'S A STORM COMING! AND A REALLY BIG ONE AT THAT!"
I looked up at him.
"And how do you know that?" -Captain
"The seagulls told me! and it smells like it too"

I walked inside to take shelter.
~Time skip~
After the storm was done I went into the captain's cabin.
"Now tell me your names and why you want to be a Hunter"
"Oh okay! I'm Gon! I want to become a Hunter to be just like my dad!"
"Hey! We shouldn't say these things! We can't trust him" -a tall man with glasses
"The man's right" -Blondie
"But then again he could be a tester..." -Ember
The captain smirked.
"That's right the Hunters exam has already begun! I am your first examiner"
