3rd person POV

Our pain fades away but the scars remains, lurking on the skin like a permanent reminder of how broken someone is and how hard it can be to perform a simple task of smiling. That's all Mark wanted, to smile and be happy. He wanted to forget about the lingering scar that no longer hurt but still suffocated him and he knew that the wound was not limited to his skin as he had seen the guilt in the other person's eyes when he looked up from the floor still in the middle of his crying fit and gazed at the senior who still knelt in front of him but not dared to move even an inch closer, worried that if he did the other might crumble and disappear.

Mark knew that love was no longer there and this attachment was just a cycle of torment for each other. Maybe the senior just wanted to redeem himself and what Mark wanted was nothing but vengeance to ease his frustration.

"You better le…."

"What did you do?" Mark's words were cut off as his friend pushed the senior who fell to the ground, back hitting the wall. James didn't care if he had hurt the older or not since the focus of his concern was the boy with a tear stained face whom he had engulfed into a hug which was well received and returned.

Mark liked that, the warmth that the contact brought and the ease his mind felt as he snuggled more into the arms that held him. He liked the way his friend would occasionally rub his back, knowing that it calms his nerves, it made him feel accepted and that in his own words was enough for him.

"He didn't do anything" Mark said as he reluctantly moved away from the warm embrace that he yearned for and stood up, bringing his hand forward to offer support to his friend who was left on the floor in a daze. James took the other's hand and stood up still staring at the later as if waiting for an answer to a question that he never asked. Something was wrong but he didn't know what? What did he miss while he was waiting for his professor to finish a lecture on ethics that would not help them in exams cause some mannerless idiots decided to run out while he was teaching? but since he never asked those questions nor did he receive any answers and Mark just walked away from the scene without even looking at the senior again who would still be holding those pitiful eyes and he didn't see them so the other boy just had to follow behind.

Walking back to the classroom after a breakdown is not such a fantasy but life never gives us the luxsurey of running back home just because we are having a mental crisis in this world so the boy just went back to his classroom where he had initially planned to be,followed by his confused friend.

"What was that?" James asked as they walked into an empty room where his other friends were supposed to stay but maybe they didn't have enough patience or maybe he was just running late for the next class. 'At least they took my stuff with them.' Mark sighed at the thought as he did have to pack all his notes that he had left out on the table earlier.

"Nothing."

"You call crying on the hallway floor nothing then I don't know how serious a situation needs to be for you to call it something."

"Ha ha very funny now can I leave for my class."

"By all means do as you please cause I won't care anymore so leave if that's what you want." James was furious, not because he actually didn't want to care anymore but because no matter how much he cared he still can't help the other and would have to find his friend breaking down randomly but all he could do is sit there and wait for it to pass.

Mark smiled because no matter how much bitterness those words held, he still felt the worry in them so he smiled at his friend's foolishness who chose to care so  much that it drained him. "Wouldn't that be better though?" he asked as his head suddenly lowered to the ground. "Wouldn't it be better if you don't care?" he asked again in a shaky voice as he eyes lit up again. "Why do you even care? I am messed up and you can't do anything so why would you care?" Mark's head fell onto his friend's shoulder as yelled those questions, knowing full well that leaning on the person you just asked not to care is hypocrisy but does it even matter when that's the only thing keeping you sane.

"I wouldn't be like this anymore." Mark said stepping away from the other and whipping his eyes once more. "I won't worry you or anyone anymore so don't ask anything." James just looked at the boy in disbelief because to him the other trying not to be like this is a worry on it's own but he chose not to say it and Mark rushed out saying how late he is being for his class when in reality he had enough time to even have a full meal with his friends.

Mark sighed as he walked into a room that was now filled with his classmates, he spotted his friends and sat down where they had saved a seat for him and since he didn't say anything no one dared to ask anything either they just silently concluded that the boy must not be bothered until he speaks himself which didn't happen and the day ended leaving them at the main entrance where they just stared at the silent boy until he left for his dorm.

'This won't do, I need to clear my head' Mark thought as he diverted from his path towards the dorm and walked to reach anywhere that could help him ease his mind and what could ease pain more than the bitterness of alcohol in his opinion.
