Luka didn't consider himself a super anxious person.
He, of course, had his moments—everyone did. For the most part, though, he could keep his cool and push off whatever bothered him. People even considered it one of his strengths. You believed it was one of his strengths.
On the topic of finding the courage to propose to you, however, he fell short. In just a few weeks, you were set to fly back to Paris for a visit home, where he was supposed to propose. He had everything ready, too: the ring, the place, the people, the script, the moment. All he had left to do was to actually do it.
He knew it was the right time. You guys were great. Not just together, but your cafe was thriving, and he was picking up new clients daily to sell instruments.
But what if you said no? What if you thought it was too soon, that you needed to wait longer before marrying? He knew you wouldn't wholly deflate him, but no matter how you said no, it would hurt. He wasn't sure if he could recover from something like that, especially since it was from you.
"Hey, are you ready?" As you packed, Luka appeared at the door, his bag in his hand, "We need to leave now to make it to our flight."
You smiled at him, nodding, "Yeah, just let me grab something."
He waited as you raced over to the bedside table, grabbing the small hexagonal black box and opening it momentarily to check that everything was where it should be.
"You still haven't told me where we are staying," You said as you climbed into the same van you did when you first arrived in America.
Sass immediately flew out of Luka's bracelet at the sound of your voice, "That'sss Becaussse you are ssstaying at-!"
"You will see when we get there. It is a pretty good place."
Luka hated how silent the plane ride was, but his throat felt dry every time he went to say something. The proposal had to be perfect. He couldn't risk spoiling it all. The quiet would just have to do.
You didn't notice it as much, just the idea of seeing your high school friends being enough to entertain your mind for the 8-hour flight. The group would be so excited to see you guys and hear about the many adventures you've already had. It was going to be perfect.
Exiting the plane, your friends were nowhere in sight. They weren't at your gate, and they weren't at the end of the terminal.
Luka looked at me wide-eyed, shaking his head, "I need to use the bathroom. Stay here with our luggage. Once I get back we can find our friends."
"Oh! Well, I can just call Kagami while you're-"
"NO- No, we can just worry about it when I return." Luka gave you an odd smile, practically sprinting into the bathroom. You couldn't call anyone. He didn't want them to tell you anything about the proposal, especially not Kagami. You regularly called the group once you finished working and chatted with them, but you remained the most in touch with Kagami. He was positive that Kagami would've told you everything instantly if you pressed enough. He couldn't risk it.
Once he was out of eyeshot and earshot from you, he dialed Marinette's number, nearly shooting the phone into the air when she picked up, "Where are you?"
"We're in the airport! Terminal C, right? Where are you?" Marinette checked above her again, confirming her location.
"I told you we would be at Terminal E! Just meet us at the airport exit. We don't have time to wait long, the hotel has a very strict arrival policy: If we are more than 15 minutes late they will sell our room! Just hurry."
